Idea 1: The island is a massive floating prison in the middle of the astral sea where people have been sent for doing terrible things. They must learn to cooperate and survive with others, or die because they were too stubborn. And even then, they will be imprisoned for the rest of their lives.
Idea 2: It’s always night here. The plants glow in the dark, and the trees shine with radiance. A massive waterfall falls off the edge of the floating island, and it is constantly moving. The island is covered in small glowing rodents and shadow beasts, and the island is about as big as a city in our day.

I'm working on a Fey queen, the Sugarplum Fairy. Well, she's not the same one from the stories. See, she ate that one. And the Mother and Lady of the same Court, leaving her the sole proprietor of the Sugarplum Court. She was a starving mortal girl at the time, and she has gotten much worse since then.
She has effectively brought her court to ruin through endless indulgence and encouragement of the same. She is not just hedonism and gluttony, but decay. Rust and decadence. An obsession with power and immediate gratification runs through her court, and she must embrace it or be eaten herself.
Survival is, and always has been, her prime directive. Hunger unending, grasping for every morsel, endless suffering for the sake of prolongiing said suffering.
