Idk what world you’re in, but saying merry Christmas before Christmas is not considered odd. For instance, last week I had my last guitar lesson before the holidays, so my teacher was like, “bye, merry Christmas” or something along those lines. Workers might say “happy holidays” as instead of the usual have a good day at a checkout Christmas week, etc.
infact, I would call it the standard. Unless it’s the actual day though it’s just a farewell, not a greeting
