My friend and I were chatting about airplanes (for no reason).
I brought up an interesting question, which is pretty easily answered: If you’re traveling opposite to the Earth’s rotation, couldn’t you just escape Earth’s gravity and let it turn beneath you?
It’d take less time and so much more fuel, obviously.
But, he asked and I’ve been wondering: how would travel insurance work, then? If you turned into space junk, would your family get more money than if you drowned in the ocean or were disintegrated on Earth?

Well, is that efficient or quicker, really? You’re traveling less distance (theoretically) if you take the path I described, but…it takes more fuel to accelerate something to 17500 mph rather than 620. Additionally, it takes so much time to get up there.
