I am a big fan of the trope of big, scary, and monstrous things actually being nice and helpful.
For example, I took the classic pop culture version of the wendigo (the scary deer beast, also think Cleric Beast from Bloodbourne) and turned it into a scary looking Fey creature of winter that will help guide and protect children lost in blizzards or in the freezing wilderness, and guide them back home.
