*Dead bodies don’t make the water toxic, but it does feed the decomposers and fungi, which cause blooms and insects to form. Those in turn use up all the oxygen in the water, and that makes it unsustainable for any underwater wildlife, incluing plants. The water is still just as safe to drink as it was before though, the natural bacteria and such already kind of made it dangerous. Biodiversity isn’t really the issue - the entire population got nuked. The lake is unlivable for plant life, therefore unlivable for fish, then unlivable for birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and anything else, once all the decomposers die out.*

*Again, I have it covered :)) A lot of bacteria would survive given how its NY, but yes with the plants and animals. Some will be brought in by the river, but a TON less for now. Trust me, I got it*

*I’m a microbiology major and (hopefully) gonna get an ecology/zoology minor. Chris was right though, it’s definitely not going to be unlivable forever, and I don’t know the specifics of what died and what didn’t.*
