 She sees a snake staring at her from the ground

 “Either you’re just a normal snake, and I’m overthinking all of this, or you’re some kind of deadly monster not seen for 3,000 years. I’m not sure quite yet.”

 The snake begins to form letters with its body 'N-O-.....-M-A-L  S-N-A-K-...' Some letters are harder to make out at first

 “The fact that you’re doing that tips me off in the opposite direction.”

 The snake looks confused 'W-...-A-T   Y-O-U   M-E-A-N   ?'

 “Normal snakes don’t know English, nor can they effectively communicate using it as a medium.”

 'D-O-N-T   ...-N-O-W   E-N-G-L-I-S-H  !-!   ...-N-O-W   N-O   L-A-N-G-U-A-G-E   !'

 “Then I’m hallucinating letters in a regular snake. I-N-S-A-N-I-T-Y.”

 'L-E-T-T-E-R-S  ?   K-E-E-P   H-E-A-R-I-N-G   T-H-A-T   W-O-R-D   .   T-H-A-T   H-O-W   Y-O-U   U-N-D-E-R-S-T-A-N-D   M-E   ?'

 “You keep contorting your body into shapes that my human, pattern recognizing brain interprets as certain sounds, that when chained together form meaning.”
