In my world, Tarran, Magic comes from different things. It is always gross. Wizards use crystals called Tentastones to use magic, and they’re basically the crystallized sweat of a massive racist octopus. Witches use potions which come from human body parts :3, sorcerers inject Tentastones into their blood.

I told you about my alchemy-based magic system, right? It's a little similar.

So, basically, a lot of creatures have innate magical powers. Things that aren't explained by mundane biology, but magical genetics (the code of which is composed of what are called Flesh Runes).
When you kill a magical creature, it releases its Flesh Runes into its body, which will bond to whatever living cells they touch. For a lot of creatures, especially the more powerful ones, this manifests as a poison. If prepared correctly, however, the Flesh Runes will be able to be converted into Tinctures, which were named as such because the first method of making them was dissolving monster parts in alcohol. Basically, a Tincture in this context is a food/drink/injection/epidermal patch/whatever delivery system you can imagine/pill that allows you to gain the powers of the monster.
You can only have one power at a time, and they last for a limited number of uses based on the potency of the tincture.
There's a lot of nitty-gritty details that change it a little bit in specific circumstances, but this is the basics.
Yay, lore rambling! Oh my goodness where do I begin?
I'm not gonna explain my worlds because my players use D&D Beyond and if for some reason they go on to this thread it's gonna spoil a lot for them. But I have upwards of 70 OC's last I checked. So get ready, world!
Wait a second. Naner, what does "NSFW" mean? I am incredibly unfamiliar with online lingo.

Anyways, it begins!
Athena Steelspike. Human Fighter.
Athena is awesome. She just is. She's an excellent warrior on the battlefield, she's a master strategist, she's super nice to everyone, she's very clever, and she has a strong sense of justice. She's also got incredibly diverse skills and is very persistent. Basically, she's not just a jack-of-all-trades. She's more like a queen-of-all-trades.
However. She's incredibly self-conscious and she constantly underestimates herself. Why? Because her adventuring party is full of really interesting and impressive heroes. There's a shimmering green dragonborn wizard with awesome flashy spells and flashy clothing. There's a plasmoid artificer, and she didn't even know plasmoids or artificers existed before she met him. But Athena is a human. And a fighter. With the Champion subclass. She thinks she's boring and useless because of this, despite in reality being awesome and helpful and a joy to be round.

Alastair and Altada were twin fae, born to a human and a fae in Tarran. Alastair inherited the fae magic while Altada inherited nothing. Alastair created a spell to share their magic, but it went horribly wrong, draining Alastair’s hair of all color and removing his magic. Altada, however, gained all the magic. Alastair appeared dead after the spell, so he was buried for a century. During that time, snow fell over his grave, and he sucked up the magic in the snow, gaining snow related powers. His body became deathly cold, and his heart almost as cold. When he woke up, the humans and fae had gone to war, Altada at their head. He was the one who convinced the fae to fight. Alastair was proud of his little brother, but also furious. He believed he should have been the hero in this story. So he began to practice using his snow magic for other harder things-teleportation and invisibility. Every time he tried, he almost died. Eventually, he was teleported to another continent. (Stuff happens which is part of the lore) and Alastair joins a rebellion against a group of rogue angels. A mysterious person named Ventis joins the rebellion, and the second Alastair makes contact with them, he gains complete power over his chaotic magic and learns that Ventis amplifies magic. (More stuff happens.)
Meanwhile, Altada became a fae lord along with the Vampire King who is my favorite son in the whole world I love him so much… Altada lead a group of warriors in keeping the planes of Tarran safe from the humans.

Faenhallen: Faenhallen is a Mythical celebration, that started as something peaceful but then turned into a horror story. Faenhallen was originally celebrated by the fae, who spent the night preparing for winter and romping through the forest. But Faenhallen was also on the winter solstice, and that was a time of high magic. Perfect for performing sacred rituals. One night, two fae boys, Altada and Alastair, one of which had magic, the other did not, decided to perform a ritual that would let them share their magic. The ritual failed and Altada took all of Alastair’s magic, Alastair falling to the ground, dead. The ritual also released a monster in the form of the magic that Altada did not take, the manifestation of Alastair’s hatred for the humans. This magic attacked children every night on Faenhallen, twisting them into terrifying beasts that people were forced to hunt down and kill. But in the snow, Alastair’s power was starting to return, bringing him back to life a few centuries later. Alastair, instead of being dead, was actually dreaming. In those dreams, he had made peace with the humans. The second he fully made peace, he woke back up and his power returned to him, and the beast of Faenhallen was no longer a threat. Still, people feared it, and the night of Faenhallen is a night of horror stories and rituals of protection.
The Fall Festival: The Fall Festival is the night when vampires and werewolves go rogue with bloodlust and fae are no longer bound by their laws, called the unbecoming. It is a night of celebration when people let themselves go free with alcohol and darkness. Over time, Fall Festival celebrations died out as more Mythicals feared the consequences of their actions during the unbecoming. The humans, however, adopted the holiday as their own and started dressing up as Mythicals and drinking rough alcohol. People tend to stay up through the night in the Fall Festival.
