The items you start with were what was in the escape pod, it'd require stronger tools to take it apart, as they weren't meant to easily come apart :/
You can try to forage again, up to three times a day, the more you forage the more chance you have of running into worse things, reroll the daily table, adding a dice for each times you foraged more than once that day, use the highest result
