Hi everyone! This is the grand cult battle royale, suggested by Faction of E leader, THE_BARD_OF_THE_FEW. Everyone is welcome here, from Hollow Knight, to Inferniak, to Kimiko, to Jeff, and everyone in between! Tana, you are also welcomed, as everyone should be included! I’ll get working on a terrain map. In the meantime, everyone please get ready your character sheets!
Rules of Creation:
- Must be level 20, can be any race, class, subclass. If you want to use homebrew, show me so I can make sure it’s not too overpowered!
- You may have 6 magic items of any rarity, but no artifacts! That’s cheating. Also, you get 1 free superior potion of healing, just in case. I play with the house rule that taking a potion is a bonus action, so for sake in simplicity, that’s what we’ll be doing. If you have a comment, please speak up!
- Update: if you want to use an artifact, you MUST give up 3 of your magic items, not counting the potion.

We want as much chaos as possible, so teaming is allowed! However, teams cannot exceed 3 players, and you may not be in more than 3 teams at once.

Initiative will be rolled between now and March 15th at 6 pm Eastern Standard Time, or 3 pm Pacific time. At that point, the battle may commence and everyone may fight!

Arena Description:
“You step, blinking, into the lights of a bright arena. A crowd of thousands of people cheer loudly on the distance. The battlefield is massive. Columns twist and turn above your heads, with boulders and trees everywhere. A small pool stands in the very centre of the colosseum, and canals crisscross the ground. Cover is widely available. The walls are made of rock, with perches, nooks, and crannies of various height up on the walls. A large area in the middle of the colosseum is left open for melee battle… an announcer appears, his voice magically amplified: “Welcome, one and all, to the Jolly Jumble!” The crowd roars in response. “Effort! Effort! Effort!”
Lair Actions:
On Initiative count 20 every round, I will roll a d12. Whatever I roll happens.
D12:
1: Earthquake! The entire arena shakes, all fighters not in the air must make a DC 20 Strength or Dex save or be knocked prone. If you are on a wall, you fall and take falling damage.
2: The floor is lava! Platforms rise out of the floor, which then turns to lava. Until initiative count 20 of the next round, you must make DC 18 Dex saves at the start of your turn or when moving. Flying creatures are exempt to this. On a fail, you fall in the lava for 3d6 fire damage.
3: Tsunami! The arena floods, at the start of your turn everyone must make DC 18 Strength checks to keep afloat. On a fail, you sink and take 2d8 acid damage. This lasts until initiative count 20 of the next round.
4: Big boom! 2 3rd level fireball spells are cast targeting two different people, determined by rolling a d8. DC 18 Dex save, 8d6 fire damage on a fail or half on a success.
5: Blizzard! The arena is covered by snow until initiative count 20 of the next round. The air is lightly obscured, all flying creatures must descend, and everyone takes 3d6 cold damage.
6: Gong! An extremely loud gong rings, everyone must make a DC 18 Constitution save or take 3d8 thunder damage.
7: Landslide! A quadrant of the arena collapses, doing 3d6 bludgeoning damage and knocking people prone on a failed DC 18 Dex save. The quadrant returns to normal at initiative count 20 of the next round.
8: Curse! One random target has Bestow Curse cast on them. DC 18 Wisdom save or you must make a wisdom save to take an action. This lasts until initiative count 20 of the next round.
9: Sinkhole! The ground in the centre of the arena collapses. DC 18 Dex save if you are in the centre or you fall in, taking 4d6 falling damage. You must succeed on a DC 15 Athletics or Acrobatics check to get out, which costs an action. This remains for the rest of the battle, so watch your step!
10: Faerie Fire! One target has Faerie Fire cast on them. DC 18 Dex save or all attack rolls on you have advantage, and you can’t become invisible. This lasts until Initiative Count 20 of the next round.
11: No lair action! The arena is quiet for now…
12: Amp it up! Roll twice on the table and get multiple results.

The Battle has started! Initiative is closed off, and no one else may join.
We have our first Kill! Credit goes to Tana, with an assist from Link. The first round of initiative has played through.
Notes:
You cannot loot corpses after death, the bodies sink into the ground.
If you are not online and it’s your turn, it goes to the next person in the order. If that person also isn’t online, then we pause until one of them comes back online. I will almost always be offline when it’s time to take my turn, because of time zone differences. As soon as you come back online. You take your turn if you can.
At Initiative Count 1, if there has been a death that round, then every person gets:
Round 1: Potion of Healing (greater). Everyone, take one now!
Round 2: +20 hp.
Round 3: +20 hp, + 2 to AC
Round 4: +30 hp, one uncommon magic item of your choice that is not an Immovable Rod.
Round 5: To be discovered…
If you die, look for a PM titled After… or something like that. It contains rules that only come into play after death…
Each ammunition of slaying (arrow, bolt, etc.) counts as a separate magic item.
The battlefield is changing… at the end of rounds 2, 4, 6, etc. I will roll on Lair Actions again, to see what happens…
DCs to find cover: Half: 15. Three Quarters: 22. Total: 40.
Be warned that monsters may end up getting “accidentally” dropped into the arena… at the end of the round… this happens at the ends of rounds 1, 3, 5, etc. CR increases each time, and they don’t care who they kill…
After 3 rounds of being dead, you can pop back to life with all items reset, but you have half hp of your maximum. This decreases by 20 each time you revive… you can take potions to regain health, and that will be the new thing that 20 is subtracted from.
