You don't, you get the type of spawner you broke, e.g. you broke a zombie spawner, you get a spawner and a zombie spawn egg, same if it's a skeleton spawner, or a spider spawner etc...

Idea for a vein of mods:
Wind. Give each day a wind direction and speed. Create a new item (fan) which can change wind speed and direction when used - has a durability, like any other tool.
To work with wind:
Could be a very cool new mechanic.
