I rolled a backstory using XGtE and received a sad tale of abandonment by a mother followed by a suicide by the father so all 6 kids ended up being shuffled from place to place with siblings in sad shape and a loss of a loved one prompting my character to go adventuring.
I'm going to try again because I just can't play that, but...
Let's have some fun with it. Come up with the saddest, edgiest, overly dramatic, most ridiculous backstory for a character. Try to outdo each other with the character's sad trials and tribulations.🙃

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
I am a Tiefling Archfey Warlock with two human parents. The town I was born in was completely human, and they are very devoted to a religion based around purity and justice. My parents gave birth to me, and were convicted of communing with Asmodeus, and were sentenced to death at the stake. My father ran, and was stabbed in the leg by the cavaliers that tracked him down, and then they stabbed him to death hundreds of times with their lances in front of my eyes. My mother was weeping and screaming as they burned her, and my hole-filled father's body, at the stake as I watched onward, not crying, because it hurt too much.
After my parent's accusations, the lord of the city told a guard to take me into the woods and kill me. He took me to a lake, but a bear erupted out of the trees and tore him to pieces. An annis hag had charmed the bear, and made it tear apart the guard. The hag then took me into the Feywild, and she raised me. Her name was Granny Irontooth, and she was a cruel guardian. She would force me to track down good fairies and capture them so she could twist them into monstrosities, and would make me eat soup made of maggots and rats.
Eventually, a ki-rin came into Feywild, and killed Granny Irontooth. The ki-rin was slain by the hag's servants after her death, and I took his horn. I use the horn as a dagger, and corrupted it into a black horn dagger that I use to cut out the heart of my enemies. As I was wandering the Feywild, I came across a castle that seemed to be made out of black stone, and snow was falling from the sky. I entered, and gained audience with the Queen of Darkness, and she allowed me to return to the material plane if I became her warlock.
She returned me back to the area where I came from, but I was now 24 years old, and I'd been in the Feywild for about 22 years. When I returned, about 500 years had passed, and the town was no longer there. I had no where to go, so I wandered the world, hunting down those who I come across, and feast upon the beasts of the wilds.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
As a joke, I put forth the idea of Grimdark the Slayer, Vengeance Paladin/Fiend warlock. His sword shoots guns and his gun shoots swords. He's half-drow, half-vampire, and probably also a cyborg and time traveler. He's also True Neutral, because he just doesn't care.
