Before I cast Psychic Scream, I use hound of ill omen for three sorcerery points, giving you disadvantage on that saving throw (among other things, but for now just that).
The hound uses Dire Wolf stats, with the following changes:
The hound is size Medium, not Large, and it counts as a monstrosity, not a beast.
It appears with a number of temporary hit points equal to half your sorcerer level.
It can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. The hound takes 5 force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.
At the start of its turn, the hound automatically knows its target’s location. If the target was hidden, it is no longer hidden from the hound.
I'd get off six metamagic options a round, dealing damage on my damage from two shards.
Okay, about how much damage can you deal?
I don't know. I might swap out the fire for a different in shard because fire is a later burn (affects at the start of targeted creature's turn). There may or may not be a better option.
Far realm shard is my best bet, because effects don't stack (so I can't deal 50 start-of-turn fire damage), and water elemental effect pushes out of range on failed save (and I'm doing it enough that if they fail more than half, they move out of range of my movement). The rest of the elemental shards have utility uses, granting resistance to me (only usable once because it can't stack), or giving me a 60 feet fly speed.
