• Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy - very, very funny sci-fi, if you haven't read them, do!
• The First Law trilogy & spinoffs from Joe Abercrombie. Exceptional low-fantasy, very gritty and brilliant characters.
• Kings of the Wyld - literally like reading a D&D Campaign, right through to fighting the BBEG. very good inspiration for D&D.
• The strange affair of spring-heeled jack, by Mark Hodder. this is the first in 6 books, all steampunk twisted-history. has the brilliant aspect of detailing at the end of the book which things were fiction and which were historical events - and they are surprising, to say the least!
• Space Captain Smith. These books feature an incredibly British space captain who is helping fight a war against ant-space-nazi aliens. The books are riddled with brilliant references to everything from books & movies to song lyrics, which are slung in without elaboration for your own enjoyment in noticing them. And there's a colossal amount of Tea, which is always good!

I saw the movie for hitch hikers guide to the galaxy and i thought it was very funny so im excited it read it!
I saw the movie for hitch hikers guide to the galaxy and i thought it was very funny so im excited it read it!
I am reading the books at the moment (for the... ...fourth time?) and watched the moving again (for the umpteenth time) the other day, and was pleasantly surprised at the number of accurate references they have in the movie to things in the book - just little things from throwaway comments in the book that really shows that they have put the effort into making it right and not just grabbing the main plot and shedding the rest. The biggest difference is Ford, who in the book is described as ginger, but I prefer the movie's Ford and as his description isn't elaborated on after his first introduction, I tend to just imagine the Ford from the movie while reading!

Flashbacks to the ready player one movie, which I must say was pretty much nothing like the book.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie was great... I can't say the same about the RP1 movie.

The Percy Jackson movies were SO bad! Books were amazing though. But the movie wasn't.

Agreed. I loved the books. I can barely even watch the trailer for the movies.
Man, I was hoping someone would mention Black Company series. I've been into it for long. I love these. Gritty sort of fantasy settings are my favorite stuff.
Then there's Berserk, which is arguably more fantastical than the latter, especially later in the second half of the manga.
Obviously loving Tolkien.
Somebody mentioned Warrior Cats and actually I used to love that one as well.
Witcher books are great I hear, though I have only read The Last Wish. Still got lots to catch up on in general.

I have never heard of most of those :p
Well Black Company isn't exactly for everyone, but if you're into military history and grimdark thingies it's good. There's nice character development, though it starts shining a bit more after the first book. And it always starts slow, only then picks up. I would swear by that stuff anyhow.
As for the other there must be plenty of content about it anyway, also kinda classic fantasy stuff.

I have to say I love RP1, both the book and the movie. I'm actually glad thatt hey took the core concept of the book and adapted it for the movie - I feel that the move would have been very boring if it was true to the book, as the book is largely about feelings and tenseness which just doesn't come across in a movie.
Spoilers from the book and move - don't read if you haven't read and watched both!
The first gate is unlocked by playing joust with a lich king in the book. The death race is much more cinematic in the movie.
The second gate is (IIRC) a flicsync in the book, which again wouldn't do well in a movie. The shining challenge is way better.
The last gate is fairly true to the book, though they added the artemis inside IOI story arc which was so-so, but I suppose helped make it about more than just 1 guy! The epic battle was awesome. Shame they dropped the giant robots and left it with Iron Giant vs mechagodzilla.
Naibs of Dune, I'm the supreme meowster of the cult of cats!, Head lobotomizer of the OIADSB cult, I've got a thieves guild, come join, Warlock main in D2.
Don't forget to love each other!
