As the tabaxi wakes up it notices it is in a prison cell with a human. The human says "hey what are you in here for?"

Yes, it was such a good nap hoody didn't even notice that it was being caged. "I guess illegal napping probably," Hoody looks around to see what was going on and where they were headed.

As hoody looks around it sees a jail with 1 window in sight and outside is hoody's favorite gem and where it was napping. The human says " huh i was put in for theft".

"yeah, i had no idea ilegal napping was a thing! naps are a very important part of the day." then in a barly audible voise hoody says "humans and there wierd rules..."

How does a gem nap? Don't ask questions. Hoody starts plotting a way to escape ( and perhaps free these dangerous criminals ). Suddenly a plan comes to mind! Fake death!

The human says "whats that". Then breaks  and squeezes through the window and takes the gem.

(what? i cunfuzed by the first 2 sentences of kirbys post)

hoody asks the criminal "do you have any red dye?"

the the criminal replieds "i did, but the took everthing from me"

"i'll have to make to without it i guess" the tabaxi replies in a grumbly voise

So no faking it then hoody thinks to themself, ooooorrrrr a more devious plan come to mind and involves cutting someone in their sleep.

the human gets the gem and sells it for read dye and gives it to hoody who uses it to fake death.

The guard notices. It was a good attempt but the guard was smarter. ( should hoody roll another persuasion thingy to make the guard believe that it was a joke? )
