I really like the long rest thing! They could be distilled into some sort of long rest potion (that takes skills/time to brew). Or in its raw form the sand could do temp hp + remove exhaustion + no dream influence.

If you consume the sand, you gain the benefit of a short rest. In addition, roll a DC 15 constitution saving throw. If you fail, any time you are within 5 feet of dream sand, you must make the saving throw again or take your action to consume it. If you succeed on the saving throw, you become immune to this effect for 24 hours. If you fail this saving throw 10 or more times, you cannot benefit from a long rest until 30 days have passed without you consuming dream sand. If you go 30 days without consuming dream sand, you are no longer addicted to it.
That's like amazing. That's so inspiring that description, I'm not joking. It's totally a winner, so much so, in fact, that Wizards should pick it up and make it canon.

Unfortunately, they won’t. Thank you though! I just spend so much time reading the material, i know sorta how they write things.
I agree, it'll take mental illness/neurodiversity and addiction being in mainstream pop culture for a significant period of time before someone like Wizards picks it up and adapts it for their purposes

I was talking about the post before that, but strangely, it fitted in either way. So just pretend i didn’t.
omg i have to look now. I'm woefully uneducated when it comes to spelljammer. Something about hadokees or something is all i know.

i don’t know if there is a 5e rule for thrilljoy, but basically its an addictive substance that makes you happy while slowly turning you into a space clown.

It could be called bottled rest.
Yaaaaaas, that's a great idea. Should it be guaranteed a long rest or should it be roll to determine short vs. long rest?

Maybe when it dies, the fey drops 1d4 pounds of sand, and 1 pound can be made into a short rest variant, and 3 for a long rest.
Yes, that's a great. It'd be great if the potion were just a potion but the sand itself could become habit-forming like a drug or something.

You become addicted to anti sleep sand. Thats the information i have gathered.
That's very useful information. Addiction/prolonged use could prevent a character from benefitting form a long rest.

I always feel like things such as addiction and chronic/mental illness are underplayed in DnD.

As long as they are taken seriously, they can be done well.
