Yeah! At level 18 they could have an ability to basically create false realities that seem and feel completely real, but make no sense whatsoever. Like if you walk away from something, you’ll suddenly stumble upon it again except that the path you took away from it is gone, but not the path you took to get to it, even if it’s the same path. Like the guards and wards spell plus mirage arcane plus phantasmal force.
So I had this idea: a campaign where the players are all diminished (ie. shadow or undead) versions of mythic heroes of the past, complete with them each having a custom scaling magic item. Think like if the Chosen Undead of Dark Souls or the Tarnished in Elden Ring were a hero in ages past, and still had some of their gear.
I was also thinking that it would take place in the Shadowfell, and that in addition to the magic items they would be able to upgrade their bodies by adapting to the hostile environment at the cost of becoming more like the monsters they fight.
That sounds great! Would you use the Ravenloft setting or just homebrew the Shadowfell?
Both, and also using Ulraunt's Guide to the Shadowfell, which is basically a compilation of Shadowfell and Ravenloft lore from older editions combined with some new stuff, all updated to 5e and made usable.
Notably, it was made to go with a book that allows players to go up to level 30, so there are some seriously OP monsters and such in there. Like, over CR 30. They even have deitic enemies like Vecna, Kas, Dendar, Shar, Jergal, and Mask.

That’s sick! I love it. That’s a great feature for a high level sorcerer.
I gtg for now but it’s been great talking to you about this. Have a great night. Hope you win in the Arena.
I really like D&D, especially Ravenloft, Exandria and the Upside Down from Stranger Things. My pronouns are she/they (genderfae).
See you Woods! And on that note Arch, pretty sure Luis is done for, so if you want to fight, get ready XD

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
May each word that I speak be backed by each of my teeth.
Hey Baalzeboop, do you like my character backstory for curse of strahd?
I'm not sure. It seems neat, but being afraid of undead might hurt a bit in CoS.
