The guard gathers tongues of flame from the lava and torches nearby, giving itself flaming claws, and eyes you, ready to attack. (Pulse: +45 HP)

The guard blocks most of the flame, the burn of their dagger... no, spear, intensifying as they let out a gutterall shout. the force of it knocks you back a fair bit, and even does 20 damage (hitting 6 times). you dodge one of the hits, somehow, but still take 85 damage overall... then, the meteor hits for 146 *1.15= 168 non-elemental damage, finishing off this guard. the other guards start shifting though... you should have a round, maybe two? to loot this guard, before they get up, at which point the question becomes whether you should cut and run. the remains of the meteor aren't a problem, because, being a magic meteor, it disipates a short while after impact.

well, no, your phone is still a flashlight, time-keeping device, way to write things down... ???(youngest-looking): goodbye weird man! you read through your book... thing is, the main bottleneck with reading isn't "how fast can you flip the pages". it's a question of processing the information you're getting from your eyes. now in the information is coming from understanding of the state of matter in your area-of-effect, but I can think of a bunch of problems that could come up with that (the difference between ink and paper isn't as sharp that way, you'll need to figure out the curvature of the page for letter-sequencing, which may just involve tiny gaps of air which you wouldn't actually sense, so you'd be looking for absences, and the more precise your solid-sense is, the harder it gets to process anything.) you roll reading speed with advantage... 19(advantage will not raise you to Nat20, so it stops at 19). then you roll luck (3 opportunities), DC 15 for useful and DC 19 for exactly what you want. 2, 10, 17. you find there's a few movement spells which are fairly similar to cantrips- cost-wise anyway- but are highly useful, and you can skip most of the danger of the trip to twain manor by using these and staying on either cliff-edges or trees. the relevant spells are Teleport (straight-line-of-sight teleport, obstructed by solids, casting time .5 seconds with a 4 second cooldown past 3 successive casts, 40-meter cap. risk of barfing.) Escape (shoot arrow at ground with bow, launch about 20 meters into the air, trajectory controllable. can be cast midair if near ground, increasing efficiency. same cast and costs as teleport.) Charge (run forwards very fast. can go upwards. can clear a 6-meter gap. costs like escape.). EORR Perry does a very flashy attack. he rolls, and it is not flashy enough, and no crit.

you roll better loot... nope. the guard didn't have much on it, but inside its (now cracked) skull where a few green gemstones. +7 . oh, and you get XP for killing it. +2500 XP after multiplication. you run to a balcony, then run across a hanging black tendril, then run on air, before realizing that doesn't work and landing outside the mansion. well, the guards don't look like they'll chase you... The condition outside of the mansion is about the way it was before, though the black spots do seem a bit more connected and they might be protruding up? you're not quite sure. to recap where you can go: back where you where before the core n' stuff back into the mansion into the lava into a wall or towards the places where more of the floor is made of the green crystaline material you've been accumulating., which also has more (mostly run-down) buildings.

you read through your book... thing is, the main bottleneck with reading isn't "how fast can you flip the pages". it's a question of processing the information you're getting from your eyes. now in the information is coming from understanding of the state of matter in your area-of-effect, but I can think of a bunch of problems that could come up with that (the difference between ink and paper isn't as sharp that way, you'll need to figure out the curvature of the page for letter-sequencing, which may just involve tiny gaps of air which you wouldn't actually sense, so you'd be looking for absences, and the more precise your solid-sense is, the harder it gets to process anything.)
you roll reading speed with advantage... 19(advantage will not raise you to Nat20, so it stops at 19). then you roll luck (3 opportunities), DC 15 for useful and DC 19 for exactly what you want. 2, 10, 17.
you find there's a few movement spells which are fairly similar to cantrips- cost-wise anyway- but are highly useful, and you can skip most of the danger of the trip to twain manor by using these and staying on either cliff-edges or trees. the relevant spells are
Teleport (straight-line-of-sight teleport, obstructed by solids, casting time .5 seconds with a 4 second cooldown past 3 successive casts, 40-meter cap. risk of barfing.)
Escape (shoot arrow at ground with bow, launch about 20 meters into the air, trajectory controllable. can be cast midair if near ground, increasing efficiency. same cast and costs as teleport.)
Charge (run forwards very fast. can go upwards. can clear a 6-meter gap. costs like escape.).

you run to a balcony, then run across a hanging black tendril, then run on air, before realizing that doesn't work and landing outside the mansion. well, the guards don't look like they'll chase you...
The condition outside of the mansion is about the way it was before, though the black spots do seem a bit more connected and they might be protruding up? you're not quite sure.
