The door is behind the suits of armour, stood ominously in a line, shields on one arm and the other arm hanging empty, with a skeletal hand emerging from the armour, blocking access. From what you can see, it is simply a studded, wooden door. Looking around the room, you see that it is almost entirely empty beside the throne, in which the skeleton sits, holding a small book.
You look around, but you're still in something of a state of shock from landing on the skeleton. Your throat is still quite dry as well, throwing off your groove.
As you reach for the book, you get a sense of foreboding run down your spine. Did that skeleton just move? You dart in and snatch the book as quickly as you can.
The skeleton doesn't move. You can breathe again.
Looking at the book, it seems to be some sort of children's book. The cover features a shrugging jester, and the phrase "who will be king?"
Inside the book, the pages are dominated by oversized text, which reads as the following:
"A Dozen Knights on a Dozen Horse Rode to Challenge the King by Force! The Red Knight, The Grey, and the Green Knight struck True So too did the Orange, the Yellow, and Blue! The King bore his Arms to Defend this Attack and took Impalement from Front, as well as from Back! For the Pink Knight, the White Knight, the Black and the Beige With the Brown and the Burgundy, Murdered their Leige! These 12 slew their King for the sake of the Town, But which, do you think, Should now wear the Crown?"
Each page is illustrated with the jester from the cover miming the attack.
Is there anything else I need to know about the book or the skeleton?
Reading through the book, it seems to just be a children's rhyme with a strange end and uncanny similarities to the situation in the room you're in. The skeleton seems to have died due to being stabbed by 12 swords. It continues to not move, most likely owing to it being dead.
Hunter looks around and finds nothing in this dry dusty room, but does remember their waterskin in their adventuring pack, which clears their throat nicely.
Jerry, as a soldier, has had very few dealings with children's books, but is somewhat surprised by the word "Impalement" being in there - firstly, because it's a very long word for a child to use, and secondly because he's fairly sure that "Impalement" doesn't mean anything to do with "being impaled".
Hunter re-reads the last line of the rhyme, "But which, do you think, Should now wear the Crown?". Hunter reasons that this sounds like you're supposed to choose one of the silent knights (lol) to wear the crown and be the new king.
