Jerry, as a soldier, has had very few dealings with children's books, but is somewhat surprised by the word "Impalement" being in there - firstly, because it's a very long word for a child to use, and secondly because he's fairly sure that "Impalement" doesn't mean anything to do with "being impaled".
Hunter re-reads the last line of the rhyme, "But which, do you think, Should now wear the Crown?". Hunter reasons that this sounds like you're supposed to choose one of the silent knights (lol) to wear the crown and be the new king.
Hunter chooses the one who looks the weakest and hands the crown to them.

Hunter chooses the one who looks the weakest and hands the crown to them.
In the interests of clarification, as I didn't describe it all that well - Hunter realises from the last verse that you're meant to choose the correct knight to be king, not necessarily the one of your choosing!

Edit: I have successfully identified these things here as WORDS!
You notice that the words are written in an ancient greek dialect specific to the southern region, a culture which put great poignancy on the mating habits of donkeys. After briefly pondering this, you realise you had the book upside down, and it's written in regular old everybody-talk.

The knights stand there silently, and don't react to your words at all.

They continue to stand impassively before you. It's almost as though these completely stationary knights in full painted armour and shields, bar the skeletal hands where their gauntlets would be, are dead.
Can I check again since I realized I had it upside down?
if so

You hear Jerry mention that the word "Impalement" seems out of place in the rhyme. You, a reknowned artificer, have worked a lot with the nobility of the land and know that this term refers, in heraldry, to the combination of two coats of arms, usually through marriage, to signify the joining of two houses.
You look around the room, and see that every shield (12 knights and the kings) bears a coat of arms.
"I said fight! C'mon I wanna get out of here already!"
They continue to stand impassively before you. It's almost as though these completely stationary knights in full painted armour and shields, bar the skeletal hands where their gauntlets would be, are dead.
Then by all reasoning and logic, it would not matter who wears the crown, because none of them care anymore.

By reasoning and logic, you would not have just been eaten by a doorway in a waiting room full of magic doors ;)
You look around the room and the shields are as follows:
The King: A lion, looking right, on a red background.
Red: 5 black feathers on a pink background Grey: an eye on a green background Green: A Green dragon on an orange background Orange: A Stag looking left on a brown background Yellow: A pickaxe and a snake, on a yellow and blue split background Blue: 3 dogs looking left on a yellow background Pink: a lion looking left on a Blue background White: an Eagle, looking right, on a white background Black: a white unicorn looking right on a purple background Beige: A Griffin looking right on a red & white split background Brown: a star beside a mace, on a white & blue split background. Burgundy: Two maces on a blue background.

You take the crown in both hands and start to take the strain, but the crown, being made of thick gold, doesn't give that much. As your intentions towards the crown become clear, you feel 13 heads slowly turn to face you, with the slow, ponderous motions of a battleship lining up its cannons. You get the distinct impression that they are not pleased with what you are doing.
