A woman I'm seeing and I are going to go play DnD on Saturday. I never played DnD in my life (Which shocks a lot of people as I do Ren Faires during the summer months) and I have no idea which class to pick. I do have a name though. Any suggestions?
There are several YouTube videos -- most 10-20 minutes long - which give the basics of playing D&D. Sherlock Hulmes, Ginny Di and others made 'beginner's guide to D&D'... worth watching to get you started.
As for which class (or race)... it kind of depends on where in the fantasy realm you will be playing 'in'... and what the rest of the adventurers might already 'be'... that way you are not an entire party of fighters or wizards or whatnot.
And speaking of fighters... Fighters are often considered the easiest D&D class due to their straightforward mechanics and durability in combat. You get decent weapons, armor and basically hack and slash... to begin with. As you learn more, fighters can get more complicated -- depending on specialties, training, etc. But to start... go for it.
In a pinch, you could go Barbarian... basically think the first, original Conan the Barbarian movie. Big, strong dude with a big sword.... and your main 'special sauce' is RAGE. It reduces injuries and improves attacks.
Using magic... is complicated if you know nothing about D&D gaming... unless you have been binge playing Baldur's Gate 3 online or Dragon Age. :p
The choices are wide and varied. Watch those intro videos and think on what would be FUN to play.
