Oakhurst is a small village that sits between Longsaddle and Mirabar along the Main Road. Word had gone out that a sizeable reward is being offered concerning two lost members of the Hucrele family. The Hucrele family is an important merchant family renowned in the Northwest regions of Faerun. Their estate is in the village of Oakhurst. They are seeking four capable adventures to find their lost family members. They were last seen heading along the old road toward a lonely ravine where rumors have it there is a lost fortress, the Sunless Citadel. You are to meet three weeks before the summer solstice at the Ol’ Boar Inn in Oakhurst.
I am looking for three well-balanced adventurers to take on this quest. Xanth, a Human Barbarian is already a part of the adventure. I will be using the Players Handbook, DM’s Guide, monsters and other things from Tales from the Yawning Portal. I am somewhat new to 5e but not to game mastering. So, I will be learning along the way, but in general want to keep it simple. My background is running Pathfinder Play by Post campaigns along with some ftf campaigns. I will be using many of the same utilities here that I used running the Pathfinder campaigns, but more on that if your character is selected.
Please submit 1st level characters as designed from the Player’s Handbook and using the D&D Beyond Character Record sheet. Characters will be created with the standard array for attributes, and standard gear with maximum starting wealth to purchase gear. (Ex. Bard 200gp, Druid 80gp, Sorcerer 120gp etc.)
PM me with your character record sheet for review. The campaign will be using the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting. Ideally, the characters are from the region along the Northwest part of Faerun from the Spine of the World to as far south as Baldur’s Gate, along the Sword Coast, and points west of Cormyr. So, if you want to give me a little background and why you are interested in taking up a quest from a small almost unheard-of village that would be a plus. You can also use the Note section of the Character Sheet to flesh out your character’s background.
I am looking for committed adventurers that can post daily, though I understand how real life can get in the way from time to time. How dare it! But if you are in a time in your life where real life is very busy, then please take care of real life, ultimately that is more important, and please do not submit a character.
To Start please provide the following:

REAL LIFE HUMAN BEING
How would you like to be called? (I am Mazra. Well met!)
Have you ever played the Sunless Citadel? And if so, when? (I ran this campaign ftf a long time ago.)
Prior experience with RPGs, PBP, FTF, etc.
Thanks to groverbloom for inspiration. I am sure I missed something………….
I'm interested. I'll make a character and send it within the next half hour
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
DM and player; also MirikSiannodel
Current Character(s): Marcon Domine level 2 monk in Lost Mine of Phandelver
Current Campaigns: Icewind Dale: Rime Of the Frostmaiden, Princes of the Apocalypse
Four things I hate in D&D: People who think the tarasque is the most powerful (an empyrean or kraken can beat it), players trying to seduce bad guys (it's funny though), when a monster roles a NAT 20 (everyone hates that), rolling a NAT 1 (everyone hates that)
My background is running Pathfinder Play by Post campaigns along with some ftf campaigns. I will be using many of the same utilities here that I used running the Pathfinder campaigns, but more on that if your character is selected.
I know you said there would be more info if selected, but I'm wondering if you might be able to mention what they are? (I'm mainly wondering if it would be required to create account with other services.)
And out of curiosity, what levels would the adventure be going to?
Please submit 1st level characters as designed from the Player’s Handbook and using the D&D Beyond Character Record sheet. Characters will be created with the standard array for attributes, and standard gear with maximum starting wealth to purchase gear. (Ex. Bard 200gp, Druid 80gp, Sorcerer 120gp etc.)
Two questions about this (I will apply regardless, just want to know what I am working with)
Are we restricted to only PHB for races and subclass?
Normally it is starting gear or wealth. Your message implies both. Could you please clarify.
How would you like to be called? (I am Mazra. Well met!): I am Swift. Nice to meet you.
Have you ever played the Sunless Citadel? And if so, when? (I ran this campaign ftf a long time ago.): I have not, though the name looks vaguely familiar. I believe I saw a previous recruitment thread for it,
Prior experience with RPGs, PBP, FTF, etc.: Lots of 5e experience as player and dm. Played since the (almost) beginning (started Dec 2014). In person mostly at first, then pbp mostly now. Minor (1 campaign) experience with 3.5e. PbP experience is in my signature

Google sheets like the link I posted above for the the Northwest Faerun map. There is a liittle instruction required to make it playable. There is NO COST associated with it. And for me it is very flexible. I can do a lot with it. As to level, through the end, I am thinking around 4th, then we will see about running the next adventure from the Tales from the Yawning Portal.
You can also use the Note section of the Character Sheet to flesh out your character’s background.
Little heads up, the notes section is not visible unless you either own the character sheet or are the DM of the character.
Thanks for this! I am new to the D&D Beyond forum. I would be curious as to why this would be blocked. There are pros and cons with this site versus the other. But overall, the benefits are greater here, particularly if you are running a 5e campaign.
NOTE TO EVERYONE (I will close recruitment when I approve the three other players, so it will not have a time frame to it.)
Also, as pointed out, I will not be able to see the Notes on your Character Sheet, so just PM with a little background about your character. This is not required by the way.

1. YES
2. Good question. Let's go with Wealth. And thanks for pointing this out, as that is something else I need to learn.
Well the option to send a private message is bugging on me right now and not loading the editor. (Probably will have to restart my computer at some point I'm guessing.) So gonna send it here.'
CHARACTER Name: Draíocht (or Draiocht to avoid ALT+0237 for í) Race: Wood Elf Class: Druid (circle of the moon at lv2) REAL LIFE HUMAN BEING: Nope. I'm actually an alien from Proxima b that's been observing humans for the past few years to find out whether y'all be safe to be around when you start making spaceships. But please be hush about that. It's top secret. How would you like to be called?: Vitus or VitusW work. Have you ever played the Sunless Citadel? And if so, when?: Nope. Prior experience with RPGs, PBP, FTF, etc.: First experience with D&D was two sessions of Lost Mines. (Took over a half-elf rogue from someone that dropped.) Also been doing sporadic sessions with some people I know via Discord. (Knew each other from college.) And for pbps, been involved in a few here. Kind of hoping to actually finish a campaign though. Longest one I've been in went from lv1 to the lv3 level up. (High attrition rate for PBPs to die in my experience.)
Character Sheet: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/119139068/IHjZTa Brief Backstory: For the past 70 years, Draíocht has lived as a hermit in the Neverwinter Woods. Before that he was an elven youth and a hothead, prone to rash actions and getting into fights. He sought the solitude of nature to help quell those impulses and better himself before coming back. And among nature he was able to begin learning the ways of a druid. Now he's ready to try coming back to society and Oakhurst, being a small town, felt like a good place to get reacquainted. After hearing about the missing Hucreles, what better way to help his newfound community than to search for them? Possible Background Connection: The hermit background's Discovery Feature suggests the character has discovered a secret, including the option of a site no one has seen before. So perhaps could work on that being a connection to the Sunless Citadel? Not sure if that would mesh with how you're looking to DM the campaign (and I'm perfectly willing to forgo this aspect if that's better for you) but thinking that might be another reason for Draíocht to go on the quest. Equipment List (open spoiler for calculations):
blanket (from Hermit background) herbalism kit (from Hermit background) common clothes (from Hermit background) scroll case (from Hermit background)
80gp (from druid) + 5gp (from hermit background) to spend
Note-to-Self: If you're wrong about background equipment, further adjustments with 6 silver left to spend after using druid starting gold, Common Clothes: -5sp Remove Backpack for +2gp Add blanket: -1gp Scroll Case: -1gp 1 sheet parchment: -1sp total remaining: 0gp
Aldwin Stoutblood is a native of Mirabar, but never had the right demeanor for mining or smithing. Even from a young age, he was fascinated by brewing and snuck into taverns to try to understand the seemingly mystical process (to his young mind) of distilling and brewing. He finally apprenticed to a brewer who supplied quite a few of the alehouses in Mirabar and even as far out as dwarven taverns in Neverwinter.
During his apprenticeship, Aldwin turned to magic to help him with the tasks he found too mundane or strenuous for him. He took to the arcane arts quickly, as well. He found a tutor in a grumpy human recluse who lived near Mirabar, and bribed the hermit for lessons with experimental mini-batches of cider and whiskey.
Upon reaching adulthood and independence, Aldwin decided to travel, to find unique ingredients to make a name for himself as a brewer. He considers his concoctions and drink mixing to be a far more impressive feat than his magic, much the bemused exasperation of his home community. While quick with his wit and a smile for strangers, the young dwarf seems to lack a lot of awareness and even common sense when it comes to the pursuit of furthering his artful libations.
He hitched up his mule, Magda, to a humble cart, and started to explore the area around Mirabar, stopping in at small towns and villages, looking for unusual ingredients for his latest recipe ideas. Aldwin made his way specifically to Oakhurst for news of strange vegetation in the area, hoping it might lead him to unknown strains of herbs for unique flavors.
REAL LIFE HUMAN BEING
How would you like to be called? I'm Mattie! Pronouns are They/Them.
Have you ever played the Sunless Citadel? And if so, when? I adapted Sunless Citadel to Eberron and ran it just over a year ago. Nonetheless, I made a lot of tweaks, so I'm sure even playing it as written will surprise me.
Prior experience with RPGs, PBP, FTF, etc. I've been playing tabletop RPGs for 22 years. I started with 3E DnD, then followed the evolution to 3.5, PFRPG, 5E, and a lot of ones outside of that system. I try to do PbP when I can, but games tend to fizzle out, despite our best efforts. I started doing PbP way back in high school, and I enjoy the format. I've been the forever DM for in-person play for most of my time playing RPGs, so PbP is where I come to fiddle with character concepts.
CHARACTER Name: Glimmerly Broadleaf (nickname Glynt)
Race: Forest Gnome
Class: Bard
Backstory:Growing up in a small village in the middle of a trade route he always had an attraction to the wider world. One day a man needed a bit of help getting a small package to a nearby town without attracting any attention so Glynt was happy to help out and went on a jolly trip with his best friend Orryn. Unfortunately there was a bit more interest in the package than the two of them were expecting. And shortly after arriving in <<TOWN>> he went to get some extra supplies and his friend was attacked and killed, the only thing that was taken was the package, he kicked himself for not looking to see what it was. Knowing that it was his idea to take the job he is afraid to go back home and is now wandering around and doing the only thing that he figures he knows how to do he is now a smuggler by trade hopping around the region trying to find out what he was involved in.
Will PM you my Character Sheet.

Prior experience with RPGs, PBP, FTF, etc.I played AD&D 2nd Edition way way back during my school days (good old THAC0). Hello! I am a perfectly sane gibberer. Hi! :D
