Cryovain seized the icy fortress from a tribe of savage orcs, killing the orc war chief and forcing the tribe’s survivors to flee into the foothills and forests. Enraged by the death of their war chief, the orcs have called upon ancient allies — evil, shapechanging, half-orc spellcasters who bless and advise them. These half-orcs worship Talos, an evil god of storms, and many dwell in the dark depths of Neverwinter Wood. In stormy weather, they gather on remote hilltops to summon Gorthok the Thunder Boar, a primal entity that serves Talos. Like the god it serves, Gorthok delights in destruction.
The orcs aren’t the only creatures thrown into upheaval by Cryovain’s sudden arrival. A manticore driven from its mountaintop nest by the roaming white dragon has migrated to the foothills and begun terrorizing folk living on the outskirts of the mining town of Phandalin. Other monsters in the region have been similarly displaced.

TIME ZONE: I too live in the distant plaguelands widely known as the East Coast. D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I played a year of 2e as a kid, and have primarily DM'd (as well as played in a few long term PbPs) in 5e over the past 3 years. Outside of my selfish reasons, I try very hard to be exactly as active as the next most active poster in the group. D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: played half a dozen sessions on a now defunct PBP campaign, run 3 6-month long live campaigns of Dragon Age RPG. DISCORD: Sure, why the fudging heck not? YOURSELF: I not on my 30's yet but i have a wife and two wonderfull children, have been passionate about medieval fantasy since i can remember. I have an aspiration of improving my game and maybe one day become a writer. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I want to be part of this thing i love, that we all love. I want to create memories, to laugh, to celebrate victory, to weep at loss. And then, 10 or so years down the line when my kids are old enough to give then those stories, those memories. I hope that the will find their own stories, with their own friends met along the way; and i hope they will be better for that, and the world around then a little bit better also. And i can post almost every night, that is important too.
TIME ZONE: I live in the Pacific Northwest D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I've been playing D&D 5e for two years, which is the same time I've been playing PBP. I'm involved in different PBP campaigns as well some live ones. DISCORD: Yes, I have discord on my laptop and my phone. I work in the mornings, so if I don't answer something right away, it's because I'm at work. YOURSELF: I'm half-way through my master's program in English and Creative Writing and I hope to write fantasy novels, with a bit of mystery and crime. I'm also a HUGE fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and have a few D&D characters based on characters from the show, one of whom I'd like to use for this adventure. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I love playing D&D, I love creating stories and I love making characters. You should pick me, because I bring levity and level-headedness to the table. I like to be optimistic during a session. If it's a tough combat, I tell everyone "it's over until the last die is rolled." If someone's character dies, I'll console them but also assure them that it's a part of the game and to not blame anyone for it. I can also post once a night, and I'm trying to get better at making detailed posts. I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
TIME ZONE: CST (Minnesota USA) D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: DND for 20+ years, PBP here on DND Beyond for a year and by email for over ten. DISCORD: Yep. YOURSELF: I love to play DND and can go with the flow of what works for the DM and other players. I am online throughout the day and can easily post multiple times per day.
TIME ZONE: HST (Hawaii, -6 hours from EST for reference) D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Started playing DnD four and a half years ago, started PbP-ing four years ago. I have been my gaming group's go to GM for the last three and a half years. DISCORD: Discord is nifty. YOURSELF: Multi lingual, grew up travelling much of the world, but moved to the US for college. Heavy reader of fiction (especially sci-fi , but much and fantasy, as well - currently rereading Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives for fun) and philosophy (for school). As a kid, my brother and I frequently wrote out and created our own fantasy worlds, blending anything and everything we had seen or watched. Some of my best childhood memories are layered with the work of bright and colorful imagination. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: Because I check often and I care. Because I love good stories and far-off worlds, and for a while have been wanting to see a campaign go really longterm (as only one other pbp that I have been to date in has). Because I have a lot of free time and write eloquently. And, finally, because at the end of the day we are playing a game to have fun and to spend time with others, and that is something worthwhile...
TIME ZONE: Eastern Daylight Time - I am physically located just south of Washington D.C. Mentally, I occupy multiple locations across the multiverse, hopefully adding this one soon! D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I've been playing D&D since I was in Middle School - started with AD&D back in 1980! Been playing PbP for six or seven years now, both as player and DM. I run a D&D club for 6th-12th grade students through my church's youth ministry program. Oh, and I play IRL with the adults who run the gaming club with me! DISCORD: I am on Discord , so good to go! YOURSELF: Retired Navy Surface Warfare Officer, married almost 30 years to a former Coast Guard officer. I have travelled the world, both through work and personal trips, and love travelling - recent trips include Peru and Morocco, and we're hiking in Nepal this fall (that's the plan, anyways...) I like to laugh and hug and eat. I am not picky about most things (like food or movie genres). I think I have a good sense of humor and love good twists, references, and quotes thrown into game sessions. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I absolutely believe in the awesome power of randomness and love tying random bits of information together to make an interesting tale or backstory. I am a team player and will not control or overburden the party. I love this game and well written/played characters. I am a consistent poster, and I try to write more than just, "I swing my sword at the orc. Attack and Damage rolls..." I like to breathe life into my characters and see each adventure as a movie in the making.
Thanks for the consideration - you sound like an awesome DM! Even if I don't get the nod for this adventure, I hope to see you around the boards!
TIME ZONE: Eastern Standard Time in the dreaded and godsforsaken land known only to the initiated as Florida. D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I've played 3.5 and Pathfinder for the past 10 or so years with about half of that being in a pbp format. DISCORD: If my rotating collection of profile pics doesn't present as an issue then it's probably a wise decision. YOURSELF: Haven't really played too much recently due to having a 1 month old and having to pack to relocate clear across the US but I've been feeling the itch to get back into good ol' DnD. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I have a love for the game, am an avid team player, can fill most roles in a party easily and really try to help newer players as well as the DM have a smooth and easy go of things barring any fun ideas that come up during play.
D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: 20+ years. (Started when I was playing ad&d)
DISCORD: I may or may not join ooc, but I do have discord.
YOURSELF: I'm a software engineer and a father if 2 boys. My wife hates dnd and that's why I do pbp format.
WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I am a devoted player that posts often. I know when to add to story and when to let the dice do their work. I also would rather give you a character after being accepted, to fill holes in the party comp (both mechanical and personality)
TIME ZONE: Arizona, we have our own time zone, it's about 10 pm D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I've been playing D&D for only a few years, and PbP for about one. But I'm catching on. DISCORD: one of my PbPs I'm in is also using discord, are we going to be rolling in discord? YOURSELF: I am an Army combat vet, and now a teacher, and wrestling coach. I'm married with three kids, my wife and boys 9&7, play in a game that I DM with another family, my daughter does not play because she is only 1. I believe in working hard so I can play hard later. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I'm not going to to dance around this question, reasons to pick me, I'll post frequently, I'll follow your rulings, while trying to make my case. Lastly I have a hand full of character idea that I'm waiting for you to pick from for me to play as.
TIME ZONE: Mountain Time in CO D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Been playing for 8 years, have been in over 5 pbp campaigns most when I spent a year abroad in Germany studying so I could continue playing while unable to find a local group. DISCORD: The best way to communicate YOURSELF: I am a astrogeology major in college and play Magic the Gathering Competitively. With the lockdown I have been spending way too much time working on DnD characters and campaigns and with online classes I am very free. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I don't have a hard schedule so I am very free. I know Fifth Edition well enough to play but not well enough to power game. I am a very flexible player and love roleplaying heavily in games and creating characters that are interesting to play and interact with (no edgelords). I take games seriously enough to commit to them and not derail them but also make sure to keep them fun and interesting. Last pbp campaign I was in was run in Pathfinder and I managed to get my character 1 shot in the 2nd encounter, 100-0 due to a critical attack. Was holding a small tunnel vs an ogre and had over 20 AC where he had to crit to hit me and the rest of the party was set up to fire in on him. Plan went south fast. Character death is fine by me if it happens. I can't wait to play a new campaign.
TIME ZONE: CDT in good ol land of the corona. D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Forever DM for the last 10 years or so, a fair amount of experience being a player. PBP did a lot of it high school and kinda fell out of it looking to start again. DISCORD: Hell yeah, primarily have been doing DnD through Discord for the past 3 years so no objection here. YOURSELF: Average Mook Warehouse Worker who runs on about four hours of sleep, the lockdown has me writing way to much junk into my homebrew world ill never get to run anytime soon so please save me. Other then that pretty chilled kind of guy, actually tolerant of others and their opinions. I feel like people on the internet try too hard to be offended nowadays. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: Lots of experience with 5E specifically and tons of tabletop in general. Posts as much as work/life allows me to which is a lot nowadays, always hated rules lawyers so made sure I've never become one despite primarily being a DM for most my TTRPG experience. Whenever I do play I literally have a backlog of characters five miles long so I always am sure to try and play something to compliment the group whether it be RP or Combat wise. Some stage experience in the form of used to do stand up comedy and troupe comedy in high school so not a shy person and fairly good at reading the room. Love the narrative aspect of DnD whether it be doing something glorious or failing spectacularly, there's no such thing as "Losing" in dnd IMO. Always happy to help people whether new or old to learn more about the game.
One of the greatest joys of being a DM is reading all of the amazing applications I get for my games where I recruit new players. One of the most difficult things about being a DM is having to pick only a selected few from a pool of greatness, like in the applications above. I have not made my final choice yet, but would the following people please send me, in PM, a sample post about one of your characters (any of them, it doesnt matter) in a brief situation (doing anything, again, it doesnt matter)
Oximas, Rhanloi, Jabthar, RahkstarRPG, and DragonDenn
Feel like I may be late to the party, but here goes nothing.
TIME ZONE: GMT. Same ocean as the East-coast people, only at the other end. D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Bounced around the interwebs and ended up reaching DnD the long way around. Only have a couple of years' worth of experience with WotC content, all of it being 5e. Have been stumbling my way through argh-pee for a good few years, though (maybe 10, I think?), and started out with Forum-RPs, which are pretty much DnD PbP games with added flourishes to formatting and a little more narration. DISCORD: Don't see why not. YOURSELF: Not much to say, really. Regular dude working a regular job. Humour is always difficult to qualify (different cultures, different tastes, etc), but I'm usually somewhere between dry and deadpan. Laughter and music are two things I don't think I could live without, and while I can come across as overly formal at the start, I'll warm up quickly enough (never been big on interview-type things, prefer my people to be tangible, even if on the other side of a screen). Big on things like respect, and the ability to choose. Also, I spell words like Humour with a 'u'. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU:Weirdly, I think that the best thing I've got going for me might just be the fact that I don't come from a DnD background. In the games I've played, I've noticed a reliance on DM-related content. It's understandable, but can become a crutch. I come from a background where you kind of have to do the work yourself and get to know and engage with characters and the environment around you, or you're going to have nothing to do, so interactions with characters Characters and Storylines (be they player or DM-run) tend to be where I get most of my enjoyment from. Consequently I prefer my characters to be rooted in the story/world and, if possible, with members of the party in order to really hit the ground running and just have a ball, which is why we're here. Destinations are great and all, but I find that the really fun part is the 'getting there'. Always try to be conscious of the notion that this is a game, and enjoyment should be shared. Tend to go out of my way to let people engage and find times to shine (when I can), and am fervently against phrases like 'Hey man, I'm just playing my character' to justify things like hogging the limelight or dick moves.
Am confident in my ability to post often, and find that having a row with strangers on the interwebs is never really worth it, even if it at times feels very much like the right thing to do.
TIME ZONE: I call Boise Idaho home! D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I wanted to play D&D my whole life but never knew how or where to get started. 6 months ago I asked a friend to lunch on a Sunday afternoon and he sheepishly looked at me and said I have plans already. After digging it out of him he told me he plays D&D every other Sunday. I asked if I could come along and I’ve been playing bi-monthly since then. But bi-monthly isn’t enough. I NEED to play more. So here I am. A boy standing in front of a DM. Asking them to let him play ;) DISCORD: Soooooo down! YOURSELF: I always play a thief in Elder Scroll games! Yet I have no interest in playing a rogue in D&D. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: Im a fun guy! I’m laid back and love learning and sharing what I know. I’ve spent 6 months pouring over the rule book, so I’m not your typical noob. And my Half-Orc Fighter in my IRL game loves to pee on his fallen foe....TMI? Then maybe I’m not for you.
TIME ZONE: EST D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I started playing D&D when I joined dndbeyond on 1/30/2018. I got into it through Critical Role. It is very similar to the storyboard writing I used to do in high school and college on Prodigy. Remember Prodigy? My father worked for IBM, so we had a free Prodigy account (because IBM created Prodigy). I took part in Robotech and superhero stories. We'd create characters (not rolled) and write bits of stories similar to pbp, but with no narrator (DM). I'm not really sure how the stories progressed like they did without an overarching narrative, but they did. I loved it ... and I love pbp. I have been in a lot of campaigns ... but have only finished a few because they almost always die early. The only ones I've finished have been one-shots. DISCORD: I can use Discord. I was regular in it for a while with one DM, but then I got out of it, but I've got a DM again who's using it, so I'm trying to remember to check it regularly again. YOURSELF: I'm 43, married, with one daughter who's grown up and moved out of state. We live with my in-laws. My mother-in-law has Alzheimer's, so we help take care of her and my aging father-in-law. I work at a 55+ senior living community in Florida, which is very nerve-racking right now because of COVID-19. We have three cases in our county now; two of the inflicted are workers at a nearby nursing home. We are much more than a nursing home — most of our residents are independent living and have their own transportation — so trying to convince them to stay indoors and stop going to Walmart is hard. Enough of that. I love writing, but I've never been able to do more than start stories. That's one reason I love pbp so much: the DM keeps the story going, and I only have to write so much at a time. I love all things superheroes, but I don't collect comics anymore; it got to be too expensive. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I love small groups. I've been wanting to play in one of your campaigns for a while. I'm dedicated (I've only dropped out of three campaigns — two because they were large groups, and I felt like my character wasn't needed; and one because it was completely on Discord, I couldn't get on as much as the others, and I always felt like I was catching up instead of actually contributing). I can write, so there should be very little cringing from sentence structure or head scratching from instructions. I'm very cooperative, I'm not easily offended, and I'm a lot of fun!
TIME ZONE: I live in Marion, NC so EST D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Unfortunately experience wise I have only been a player in a few games. Working 70hrs a week limits in person games and most of the games I have been lucky enough to be apart of fizzle out after the first month or so either players ghosting or dm. The rules and game play though I have read a lot. DISCORD: Discord sounds awesome I wished more people used it. YOURSELF: I am an odd combination of nerd/sports/ music buff I love watching panthers games even tho they rarely do well . I love anime and books of all kinds hooked on seven deadly sins currently and using audible to plow through books at work. WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: Why pick me why that’s simple I’m awesome!

D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: DND for 20+ years, PBP here on DND Beyond for a year and by email for over ten.
DISCORD: Yep.
YOURSELF: I love to play DND and can go with the flow of what works for the DM and other players. I am online throughout the day and can easily post multiple times per day.
Very nice so far. Keep it up. Bump.
TIME ZONE: HST (Hawaii, -6 hours from EST for reference)
D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Started playing DnD four and a half years ago, started PbP-ing four years ago.
Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
TIME ZONE: Pacific
D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: 20+ years. (Started when I was playing ad&d)
DISCORD: I may or may not join ooc, but I do have discord.
YOURSELF: I'm a software engineer and a father if 2 boys. My wife hates dnd and that's why I do pbp format.
WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: I am a devoted player that posts often. I know when to add to story and when to let the dice do their work. I also would rather give you a character after being accepted, to fill holes in the party comp (both mechanical and personality)
TIME ZONE: Arizona, we have our own time zone, it's about 10 pm
D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I've been playing D&D for only a few years, and PbP for about one.
Thom Everyman- Midgard One Shots
DMing- The Voyage of the Fallen Star
TIME ZONE: Mountain Time in CO
D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Been playing for 8 years, have been in over 5 pbp campaigns most when I spent a year abroad in Germany studying so I could continue playing while unable to find a local group.
DISCORD: The best way to communicate
YOURSELF: I am a astrogeology major in college and play Magic the Gathering Competitively.
Algrenon Deadbreeze - Dragonlance. "Rokem Sokem" - Eternal Warfare WarParty B.
Ogresh Thunderclan - Ultimate Adventure Tazla Swong - Cave of Ordeals
WHY SHOULD I PICK YOU: Weirdly, I think that the best thing I've got going for me might just be the fact that I don't come from a DnD background.
Asking them to let him play ;)
DISCORD: Soooooo down!
TIME ZONE: EST
D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: I started playing D&D when I joined dndbeyond on 1/30/2018.
TIME ZONE: I live in Marion, NC so EST
D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE: Unfortunately experience wise I have only been a player in a few games.
