War. That is what the world of Ionra has only known for the past two centuries. What started as a trade dispute between two countries escalated into a war that engulfed the globe. Other countries were inevitability drawn into the conflict as they took sides. Those that remained neutral were invaded and conquered by the opposing sides. Other countries room advantage of the situation and expanded their borders. Once, the verdant continents of Ionra were filled with life. Now, smoking ruins and ravaged landscapes smoulder in their place. Nearly two-thirds of the planet is now scorched with arcane power and littered with the broken bodies and weapons of fallen soldiers. The planet was dying, and both sides realized the folly of the war. Putting aside their rivalry (sort-of), they ended the war and began to try to discover a way to reverse the damage they have dealt. Together, they constructed a gateway to Ionra's moon, Khaliad.
Khaliad is the same size as Ionra and is packed with life. The gateway formed in the lush and vibrant jungles near the equator. Near the coast, life of all kinds flourish in the steamy environment. Pleased at their success, the rulers of Ionra sent a small group of people through the gate with supplies to build an outpost. They built their outpost and explored the surrounding land. Three months later when the planetary hates aligned, the arcane gateway opened once again and brought back the explorers. With them, they brought news of a planet full of life and plenty of room to move people of Ionra to Khaliad. Within a year, the small outpost of of Kigiis on Khaliad grew into a large village as more and more people came through the gate every three months. Parts of the surrounding jungle was cleared away to make room for the expanding town when they first met the inhabitants of Khaliad, the lizardfolk. Primitive and simple, their tribes were pushed of their land by superior magic and weaponry. Tensions have been high since.
The rulers back on Ionra are seeking brave souls who are willing to scout out the alien and beautiful world of Khaliad. You have volunteered for your reasons, whether it be the gold, a chance for a new life, or whatever you may. With a flash of white flames, a column of arcane power blazes through the space between the new worlds as you make your way to Khaliad. You arrive on a new world with a slight sense of disorientation as you take in your new surroundings. Fresh, muggy air fills your nostrils; a strange sensation after the smoky haze of Ionra. Around the arcane sigils of the gate about you, the town of Kigiis greets you. The sounds of the nearby ocean mingle with the sounds of hammers and sawing as the town slowly expands around you. People bustle through the unpaved streets, heading to do their various tasks around the industrious, town-in-progress. Away from the ocean, a thick jungle dominates the landscape with mountains obstructing the horizon. With contract in your hand, welcome to the jungle.
After asking around for directions, you eventually make it to the town hall. Still partially under construction, you head inside and approach the from desk. A human women sits behind it, busy with paperwork. She looks up and when she sees the document in your hand, she leads points to the hallway to the right. Walking that way, you come to a door that is partially ajar. Inside, you can see Marik, the elven man who is your employer. He is leaning against the back wall with his arms crossed, waiting. His long black hair has several braids that fall down to his waist. His stern features and blue eyes are focussed on something on the other side of the window that lets a column of sunlight illuminate the small room. The faintly dusty room has a wooden table with several chairs surrounding it. When you get near the door, Marik looks up, and a friendly smile cracks his narrow countenance. He says in his melodious voice, "Welcome. Please, come and sit down. We're just waiting for the others to arrive."
A War Scarred looking Lizard Folk, who is half covered in mud, and who's armor looks tattered, walks into the room, his edges becoming blurry as he moves. when he is within hearing distance of the man, he says slightly gruffly, but also warmly "good to see you again. what our next mission?"
A handsome Half-elf of middling height with a slender build, short brown hair, green eyes, and a small scar on his left cheek. He is wearing a grey cloak over plain black tunic and Pants, walks into the room. Corian never one to make small talk quietly goes over to one of the chairs and sits down.
A Tiefling with short horns protruding like nubs at the peak of his forehead walks in. Red skin, stylized and trimmed goatee and mustache, he’s handsome if you’re into pirates. And he definitely dresses the part, with a leather vest and boots, daggers, and rapier. The bow is a bit out of character, and he doesn’t have an eyepatch either.
Gellendri Treesong stands at the doorway observing the proceedings. She is entirely oblivious to the fact that she’s blocking the way for any newcomers. If one were to observe her, they would see a 5 foot tall wood elf. If they were to take a closer look, they would notice her raven-colored pony tail. It seems to be slightly unkempt. Her skin is pinkish, leaning on the pale side. She wears a green vest and simple pants. Her right hand is grasping a simple wooden quarterstaff.
At the lizardfolk's greeting, Marik responds with a smile, "It's good to see you too. I'll explain what your next job is once everyone else arrives." After that group arrives, he asks, "How was your trip over here?"
A few minutes later, Talon steps through the doorway. ( I changed my portrait to what he looks like because it looks better than what my words would describe him as). He is holding his helmet under one arm, and his ornate staff is strapped across his back. While slender, his 7 foot frame is strong. Seeing the others in the room, he gives a slight now and says, "Sorry I'm late. I was enjoying the fresh air. I haven't smelled any in quite some time."
A smallish purple frog, dressed in simple leathers, peeks into the room, taking in the view with curiosity in his eyes. He bobs his head at all of you and takes a squat on one of the chairs.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
Fenron breathed the fresh air with a sigh. It had been far too long since Fenron had breathed air that didn't smell of ash. He moved past the front desk and sat at the table. The Half Elf had long, wavy brown hair. He wore the typical garb of the Ammanian Ranger Corps. The uniform consisted of a rigid leather cuirass, a black metal cuirass embossed with elven symbolism, embossed pauldrons and bracers, black boots reinforced with embossed shinguards, and an olive cloak with a cowl all with leathers underneath. His bow was strung over his back and his quiver was full of arrows. his shortswords remained in their scabbards which were positioned on his hips. He sighed as he sat. "Lets get this over with. There's much to see and much to do. " He said. His accent was difficult to place, being from one of the more obscure southeastern regions of Ammanian territory.
After Fenron enters the room, Marik walks over and closes the door. He returns to where he was and sits down. He says with a small smile, "Welcome to Khaliad. It's nice to see all of you again. Anyway, let's get down to business." The smile fades from his face as he becomes business-like. "Two weeks ago, one of our scout teams returned from the jungle with news of an expanse of ruins near that mountain range you saw when you got here. They didn't explore it due to the fact that they lost half their team to natural predators of Khaliad. I would like you to explore the ruins, find anything valuable and being it back, and to create a map of the ruins. If you successfully complete this task, you will each be rewarded 750 gold in addition to a chance of keeping some of the items you find." He leans back in his chair and makes as eye contact with everyone in the group. "Are those acceptable terms?"
Marik pushes a large sheet of parchment across the table. You can see it is a hand-drawn map that leads you through the jungle to what you assume to be the ruins. Marik says, "That map should lead you there. Just so you know, the scouts encountered carnivorous plants, elementals, poisonous vegetation, powerful storms, and monsters that prowl through the undergrowth."
Seeing Marik place something on the table Gellendri’s interest is piqued and walks over, no longer blocking the entrance way. “Are these natural predators similar to the ones here?” She asks matter of factly.
"I was born to fightcarnivorous plants, elementals, poisonous vegetation, powerful storms, and monsters that prowl through the undergrowth." Hunter says confidently
“I see...” Gellendri turns around and faces the inhabitants of the room. Mustering the courage to introduce herself she half yells an introduction. “It seems that I will be working with you all from now on. My name is Gellendri Treesong.”
