Hello everyone! I've been playing in pbp's for a while now, so I thought I'd give DM'ing a shot. Mistakes will of course be made, but its all in good fun.
This will be a spooky themed Homebrew Campaign, though chances are it will continue well past that, it may evolve into something else. Another thing, this will be a One on one campaign. Meaning it's me, you and everything I can throw at you until you die:). But seriously, I've chosen to do this for a few reasons, the main one is that it goes way, WAY faster. Now, before the 'campaign' post, a few rules.
1. Make your characters in this thread, but, game posts are pm only. 2. You may make up to two characters. They can be related by blood, proffesion, or just happen to stumble upon each other in the woods. It's up to you. 3. Finally, I do not care how you format the actual sheet, just note that for your backstory, I need to know what made your character who they are today and what motivated them to be at the start of this campaign.
I will DM up to 4 players. Not first come first serve. Good luck, happy role playing!
Mayor Varus is at a loss. It is approaching that time of year again, the time when the dead rise! The townsfolk have been told that there is noting to worry about, that the walls will not be breached. Varus cannot help but sweat at his own words.
In an act of desperation, Varus acted in secret to send out for meecenaries to help this time of year. In short, a thousand gold to whoever can succesfully protect the town of Avenburrow for one month. Having received said letter, you arrive to the gates of Avenburrow. The wooden gates are closed and three guards stand beside it. One approaches you.
"Hold there!" he says. "What buisness do you have here?"
Hearing that, you remember a litte note on the job offering you received.
"Do not make your true purpose known at all costs!"
If we make two characters, would we play them at the same time? Would the player RP both?

Horatio Hirschfeld - Squire imbued with fae powers, in the Coliseum of Conquest (W2/L1) DM for Reavers of Harkenwold, and sometimes The Fighting Grounds of the Coliseum
Great idea! I especially like the 1-1 play for pace of play purposes.
Ability scores, character links to follow:
13, 14, 12, 13, 9, 14,
17, 14, 9, 14, 11, 12,
Winter Wildwing, a wild mage human sorcerer. I might switch out a cantrip or two, and I added a diamond worth 50GP to my inventory due to my backstory of selling a successful business. I will also roll for hitpoints if chosen. https://ddb.ac/characters/17767061/ma9yVJ
ill have sheets up tomorrow but I’ll be making a tiefling arcane trickster and an Aasimar sorcadin who are step brothers.
For a background I have an exchange in dialogue between our heroes
"I swear, brother, I don't know why you got into being a criminal if you aren't going to enjoy it." Muirdus states.
Amrath starts to speak, "I didn't get into crime... I --"
mockingly, "I made a promise to your father... a far better man than you." switches back to his normal voice, "I know, I know. But have a little fun at least."
"Just because of our parents unholy union doesn't mean I have to go along with your asinine plans."
"But it does mean you have to look out and make sure nothing bad happens right?"
"..."
"great. hold this." he hands over his lockpick, "Now holy fighter, I just happened to line up some legitimate work."
"Is that why we're robbing this man?"
"No we're robbing him because men aren't meant to accumulate this much wealth... we're going to clean out some undead, Oathless."
"Don't call me that."
"Its a term of endearment brother, but maybe you should take up an oath... you know you're always down on me for my crime life, but you haven't even decided on an oath to life by. I have an oath. Its to liberate wealth from those whom have too much."
grabbing the tools, "My oath is protect you from winding up in a cell."
--
Upon arriving at the gates when asked the question about business.
Muirdus steps infront of his brother, "He are here to spend coin freely and find a night's refuge after a tenday's travel a stiff drink and a warm bed and maybe the hand of a companion for this one" he points to Amrath who grumbles slightly but doesn't speak.
Kaylia Brightspark, Half-Elven Celestial Warlock, assigned by the church to see what aid can be given to this beseiged community. She is accompanied by Erik Godtouched, Protector Aasimar Heroism Paladin, assigned to her by her order to serve and protect her.
Wendy Skye - Air genasi tempest cleric of the Changebringer (Avandra) with a penchant to throw herself into any danger she can find (ddb.ac/characters/17769195/yAcFr0)
and her half brother
Loche Rain - Water genasi circle of the moon druid who really wishes she would stop sometimes, and look out for herself. (ddb.ac/characters/17769205/DdIEsy)
Skye would absolutely jump at the chance to defend a city from hordes of undead, especially for that prize money. He~llo~, and Loche isn't about to let his sister go charging into the undead legions without him there to have her back, and probably keep her from dying in an utmost stupid way. Plus, we're here for the townsfolk Skye, not the prize money. Don't lose sight of that. (Note: There's a couple of magical weapons equipped from past stuff I've done with these characters that I can remove no problem if picked. Just lemme know! Also for flavor, Skye's short sword is a katana.)
"All will become equal now" | "Cause we're going to shout it loud, even if our words seem meaningless. It's like we're carrying the weight of the world"
2 brothers of noble blood, once part of a church of Helm. Truman is an ex-cleric, and a loyal one. When, one day, Truman stumbled across a book that would teach him the secrets to life and death accidentally, the church of Helm disowned him. He lost favor in Helm, and was cast out of the noble family of Terrorcut. Alemar had it worse. The older brother, of the blood of Henry Terrorcut and Ku’Maj Terrorcut. As a paladin of a holy order, having a brother cast out and still acknowledging him is a big no. But Alemar cares too much about his family. His brother. He’s not going to abandon him. He even retains this trait to this day. You an say this is a lasting trait from being a paladin of Helm. He calls it a bond. Alemar was therefore also cast out of the church.
This struck the 2 brothers. They spent their life for Helm, ensuring people were protected and carrying out the will of the deities. What had they got? They were cast out, abandoned, for loving eachother. This is not what a deity is meant to do. At least, not one that is to be worshipped.
Having no place left to go, Truman and Alemar opened a sell-sword service, in order to keep their life afloat. They’ve been using their services for years, earning money, becoming rich, killing some monsters. But none of their bounties were as good as this. 1000 gold, to kill some undead? This should be easy! They’ve killed larger, or so they think.
(aaww, man! Someone already did the Warlock+Paladin combo!) (Note: If you plan on picking me, you should know that I may sometimes have to stop playing for a small while due to IRL circumstances. I find it only fair you should know this information.)
Percy and Kharvoch are cousins, but they couldn't be more different - both in looks and lifestyles. Percy was the golden boy, the youngest of five children (the rest daughters), and he's following in his father's footsteps in an effort to devote himself wholeheartedly to the greater powers of the world. Kharvoch is a fledgling barbarian, succumbing to the heritage passed on to him by his absent orc mother, feeling that he is only able to survive in the world as a result of the rage simmering within him.
The pair of them grew up in the same town as one another but were generally kept apart, Percy's parents worried Kharvoch might corrupt the boy, Kharvoch's father concerned that Percy might fuel the half-orc's anguish even further. Regardless, they formed bonds over a shared love of the pastries Percy would beg from the baker, and the foraging they would do together in the nearby woodland. Neither's parents were pleased about this, and in an effort to turn their back on those condemning their friendship, they have set out to adventure together.
Percy likes to think he balances out Kharvoch's worse traits, and Kharvoch likes to think he does the same for Percy - of course, neither of them would willingly admit Percy isn't quite as perfect as he thinks he is. The pair of them have decided to respond to Mayor Varus' request as a demonstration of their ability to work successfully with one another on a real, bonafide mission - plus, the promised reward is far too tempting for them to pass up, and Percy will never pass on the opportunity to wreak havoc on some undead. Kharvoch just likes to wreak havoc.
