Hello, I am a long time DND player/dm, but this is the first time I'm attempting to run a Pbp. I don't see many custom content campaigns here, so I'll try to make this compelling.
You find yourself in a settlement in the middle of a simmering war between the reigning kingdom and independent clans. Tensions are high and it is becoming difficult to find work or supplies without having to swear allegiance to one clan or other. Our story begins in the Agents of Fortune gathering house, one of the last bastions of free labor and independent work in the kingdom. While there are some crafters and trade workers in the AF, most work comes in the form of exploration contracts, delving into dungeons of the castles of the old clan grounds. Established back before the rule of the line of Leopold.
(All published content allowed, and I'm okay with homebrew as long as I can approve it and we let the group know somewhat what to expect.)
If you're interested, please post with.
Ability scores: roll no rerolls if you don't like those your can take point buy.

Background (if you have an extensive backstory that's fine, but please put it in a spoiler block):
If you'd like to be involved in a clan we can work on that as a group after selection. I'm looking for 3-4 players, I'm not always on and I'm usually not available on weekends.
Background: The original creator of HK-13 is no where to be found, either killed or gone missing so HK-13 is running on its primary mission of battle and exploration, what better place than with the Agents of Fortune.
Qa is from the Storm Horns. Here he grew up in a tribe that had come from the Elemental Plane generations before and had taken up residence in the mountains near Cormyr.
As a youth, his tribe had been attacked by a large green dragon, destroying there home and killing most of the members of the tribe. Those that survived scattered, looking for refuge from the beast. None of the survivors knew why, after generations of relative peace, the dragon had turned on them.
Qa sought answers in devotion to the god Talos. Seeking his answers in the wind and thunder. Listening for clues in the rain and the storm. His devotion has brought him closer to his god but has not yet brought him closer to an understanding of what happened to his people.
Feat:Dual Wielder (Firearm Specialist - If guns are allowed)
Class: Rogue (Swashbuckler)
Background: Pirate
Backstory:
Once Captain of a fine sailing vessel named The Kraken, Beric Blackhand and his crew were the scourge of the known Seas. After a few too many drinks one evening, the Pirate lost his ship in a hand of cards and has fallen on hard times since. He's come to the Agents of Fortune gathering house in hopes of finding an employer in need of an experienced sailor and privateer.
Thanks for all the posts so far. I plan on selecting a party by Friday (the 27th), and starting the campaign by October 1st at the latest. (Posted on a whim, so I have little of the world built.)
Lyonette was part of the House of Lovelle. Granted knighthood by the church of Lathander because of her family's former status in exchange of her services in hunting fiends and undead. She willingly accepted it, as it aligns with her goal of finding the wretched devil that caused her family's ruin.

Believer of the almighty one, the Alpha and the Omega, whose love encompasses all of his creations, RNGesus.
Started as a player at time of registration. Started to DM a month later. Hoping to get better as time progresses.
I've got a Human Fighter that seems ideal for this type of campaign. Caught between clans after having completed his training from an elite military school.
((I'm personally a fan of point buy over rolling... but since others have rolled some nice stats I might try as well just to see what I'd get if chosen))
Interested, will roll up a character soon. Hopefully get time before you close submissions
Ability scores: 151415131513 - Wow, nice scores. I don't even get a dump stat. I enjoy having a couple of low stats for RP purposes
Name: Dimble Timbers
Race: Forest Gnome
Class: Wizard (evocation)
Background: Sage
Backstory:
Like most Gnomes, Dimble was curious but he also wanted than just the knowledge. He wanted power. It turned out that most his family and friends knew a lot but not about magic which is what interested him so he set off to learn more magic. Heading to a major city he discovered the Agents of Fortune and learned some magic from one of them. He was told that he could get more magic and more powerful if he was to practice in stressful situations and combat, and by delving into old clan grounds there was a chance to find lost magic. That was enough to get Dimble hooked and ready to go off on missions.
Okay... Not entirely sure if I like these stats. May go point buy. Posting character shortly.
Went Point buy at the end.
Name: Damaia Heartstone Class: Archfiend Warlock Race: Tiefling Background: Sage but I switched History for Insight. Backstory:
Damaia was brought into this world as part of an unholy cultist ritual. Her dad is an archfiend who mated with her mom as part of the ritual. Born with demonic powers, her dad has great plans for Damaia but she wants none of that. However, because of a pact signed by her parents, Damaia's soul is owned by her dad. Her dad tries to get her to work with him but she wants to live life her own way and tries to get out of the pact, doing small things here and there to get her dad to give her soul back. Her relationship with her dad is like that of a unwilling daughter whose dad is trying to get her into the family business rather than a relationship of master and slave.

Class: Rogue (Will multiclass into wizard to get bladedancing at levels 3 and 4, have not planned further yet)
Background: Noble
Triscyne gave up most of his past life five years ago, freely joining the ranks of the Sundance, thus forsaking his family name, his belongings, his former friendships. He was born a fifth son, which in and of itself is an extraordinary feat for an Eladrin family, to a high-ranking noble family within the kingdom, thus joining the Sundance was the highest honor he could achieve both personally and for his family.
The Sundance are an almost military cult, dedicated to mastering both the physical and arcane arts of war and merging the two into an art form both deadly and beautiful to behold, but its members also maneuver in the higher noble circles, as most all the members are noble-born, and they are a political force in and of itself. That is to say, they were.
Triscyne had not yet mastered the Sundance, but nonetheless he was allowed to go on a mission with a small group. Little did he know this would be one of several sparks that fueled the enmity between the clans and the kingdom. He, under the leadership and company of three other fully trained Sundancers, led a mission into the camp of one of the clans to discuss some matters with the clan leader. Triscyne does not even remember the details, as he was put on guard duty outside the tent as the others spoke. All seemed peaceful, and they started their journey back to the Sundance to report. However, on the way home, they were ambushed.
It happened quickly, and Triscyne only remembers several black-robed figures rushing them on the side of a mountain. He was wounded on his arm, and lost his footing on the steep mountainside, tumbling down and cracking his head on a rock before all went dark.
He woke in pain, but mostly unharmed, but there was no trace of his companions. With no recourse but to continue, he returned to the Kingdom where word quickly reached him that the Sundance in its entirety had vanished overnight. The King had responded furiously, blaming the clans for the strange occurrence, which they obviously denied any connection to. Only one Sundancer still lived, or so it seems, since Triscyne still has not met with the elder Eladrin in person, one of the oldest members of the Sundance before they vanished. Only short messages, written on scraps of paper, got through to Triscyne.
Leave the Kingdom. Find your own path. Return only if you have news. -Illyphar
This was three years ago. He spent the first two searching for any sign of what had happened to the Sundance, but for the world they had simply gone up in smoke, and he wondered if he would ever find any information outside of the Kingdom. So, he travelled, this fledgeling warrior who had not even mastered the Dance.
Background: Syl's mother, a high elf, left him and his father long ago. His suspicion has always been that she was ashamed to have had a child with a human, but he doesn't remember much of her. A few years back, Syl's father also left to help run one of the independent clans that were old and proud but in a state of disarray. He tasked Syl to help out in the human village where they lived, but the half-elf soon found that without his father there, he stuck out like a sore thumb. Feeling alone and unwanted, he set out on the road to make his own way and find his own life, carrying only a few things with him as he went. Included in this was the lyre his mother left behind - he had become quite good - and the shawm that his father taught him to play growing up.
