I’m looking to DM a game of LMoP, then possibly continue into a modified Curse of Strahd.
For those applying, here are things to keep in mind:
1. Looking for 4-5 PCs who have not played Lost Mines of Phandelver (Or CoS).
2. All levels of D&D/PbP experience are welcomed
3. All I ask activity wise is to post a couple times a day. I myself am in CST, and can reply to things most times of the day. If you have not posted in a day, I will take over your character actions to move the game along, and after a week of inactivity I will look for a replacement player. If you can’t post, just communicate that to me, I’m flexible, and can make it work.
4. We will be using DnD Beyond PMs as an OOC chat.
5. Character Creation:
a) Ability Scores: Roll one set stats on this thread, re-rolling ones once. If you roll, but don’t like the outcome, standard array or point buy is fine.
b) Race: All official races. I’m willing to allow home brew if you run it by me first.
c) Class: Same thing as race. All official classes and subclasses are allowed, including home brew if I review it first.
d) Alignment: I would prefer good aligned characters, but neutral is completely fine if that fits for your character. In general, just no evil alignments.
e) XP/Hit Points: We will be using milestone XP and fixed hit points.
f) Equipment: Gold or class equipment. It doesn’t matter to me as long as if you choose gold, roll it in this thread.
g) Backstory: Make it as short or as long as you would like, just know I may integrate some elements into our campaign if it makes sense.
I think that covers everything, but if you still have a question, feel free to PM me. For now I will plan to leave this recruitment thread open for about 5-7days, before selecting the group.
Adventure Hook:
In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days’ travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found “something big,” and that he’d pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen’s Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to “take care of business.”
You’ve spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you’ve just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You’ve encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
*In your backstory, try to include a sentence or two about how you know Gundren*
Alignment: Strives for true Neutral but has a bit of a heart of gold that leads him to be more Neutral Good
Backstory: Grew up in a happy but hardworking family. He was less so, regarding the hardworking. Instead he hung around taverns where he could filch free meals, listen to stories and music and, on occasion, misplace a coin or two left to pay a tab or tip a waitress. As he grew older he found he had a talent for song, an even better talent for telling stories... And the coin thing, well he was no slouch on that either. He started to get a bit of a reputation for himself, both as a bard and as one who things went missing around. Surely his talent could take him to greater places than the town he was born in... And he decided they should do so before his luck ran out and the law decided they had enough evidence of his other endeavors.
So Shayne MacGee packed a bag, grabbed his flutes and tools, and headed out for the open road. Grunden is one of the first friends, or at least acquaintances, he's made since he took off. They both had a certain fondness for the same bar, and the same taste in refreshing beverages. Shayne appreciated that Grunden got more generous in the buying of rounds the more he has had, Grunden appreciated the fact that Shayne could spin a tale or play a tune and get the waitresses fighting one another to serve their table...

Name: Odwin Race: Mountain Dwarf Class: Fighter Alignment: Chaotic Good Background: Soldier Backstory: 2 years ago Odwin was forced to muster out of the military. He was told he'd reached the highest rank he'd ever get. It was time to let the new blood come up and take the reigns of the unit. Odwin didn't say a word. He collected his things, his weapons, and with little fanfare, he settled down in a small community in Waterdeep. For 2 long years, he'd tried to settle into "normal" life. He had a small meaningless job and drank tea and read some when he wasn't working. Then some thugs tried to rob Odwin, referring to him as an old man. Odwin quickly dispatched the would-be thieves and sit down to have some tea when he realized he still loved the rush of battle. In fact, he missed it and wouldn't settle for anything else but returning to a that life. Odwin reached out to some old friends who put him in touch with Gundren Rockseeker. Rockseeker promised Odwin could work till he either died, got too tired of it, or just too old. Odwin met up with the supply train wagon and is making his way to Phandalin with the others.
Quick Backstory: As a young gnome, Usul and his parents were traveling through the realm and had stopped off in Neverwinter for a few nights. On the second night at the Inn Usul snuck down to the kitchens as everyone slept to snag some sweets for himself and look around outside just a little bit at night. It was this small mischievous act that end up saving his life though, as a fire broke out at a nearby pub, which quickly jumped to the Inn as well. Though Usul was saved, his parents died in the fire, leaving Usul orphaned in a city he didn’t know.
Finding himself on the streets, he used what skills he had to stay alive. Mostly earning coppers here and there through small illusions he could conjure, and often pick pocketing drunk tourists. This is how life went for a few years, until one day Usul was trying to sneak into a local magician’s tower and was caught. Fortunately, the magician took pity on Usul, and instead of turning him into the guard, set him to work. As their trust grew, the magician referred Usul to his friend, a dwarf by the name of Gundren, in a way to earn some actual coin. For Usul, the through of even 10 gold was a huge amount, and he decided to set out a small adventure to deliver some goods to a small nearby town.
Backstory: Zala was raised by her monastery, the Order of Silver Wings, after her parents who lived in a nearby village were slain in a bandit raid. The order taught a form of combat passed down to mortals by angels, and taught her how to best understand and use her celestial ancestry. She spent much of her life in the monastery, and excelled in the mastery of the combat aspects of the Order, but was easily bored in most of her classes. When she was around 17 Gundren Rockseeker was a guest in the monastery and Zala acted as his guide during his stay. During this time the two became friends and Gundren acted as a sort of mentor of the outside world for Zala.
After his visit, Zala showed an interest in traveling and seeing the world, and so her teachers allowed her to start with doing errands in the nearby villages. Over the next few years, she travelled more and more, eventually going as far as Waterdeep and Neverwinter. Recently she recieved an offer for a job from Gundren in a small village called Phandalin.

Character: Bazarat
race: Tiefling, zariel variant
class: cleric, war domain
alignment: chaotic neutral
backstory: Bazarat was a sailor by trade, but one who was trained to heal his crew, repel boarders, and lay the smackdown on anyone who crossed him, his pals, or talked smack about Tempos. problem was, he was with Gudren's cargo, since Gudren acquired his services after seeing him work on the sailing ship "Errant Glory" as the master-at-arms. he doesn't know why Gudren is paying so much to work in a small town, but he can tell something big is going to go down.
Class: Barbarian or Rouge (I'd would prefer rouge cause I want to try it out.)
Alignment: Neutral
Backstory: Grok doesn't care for much, but for his own survival and comfort. He learned as a young Bugbear that gold can take care of both of those issues. Using his instincts and the knowledge he gathered from cities, he became a bounty hunter. To say that he became an enemy for most criminal enterprises, by taking contacts on and killing (he doesn't like them squirming when he takes them in) their members.
(I don't have the book for bugbear, if you do and can share it great. If not, I'll just work with it on paper.)
Ryzen was born and raised in the city of Baldur's Gate. His father was ship captain, and his mother owned a bakery in the city. His childhood was comfortable. His father wasn't home very often because of his job, but Ryzen and his mother had plenty of money to live on. Ryzen and his family were considered to be part of the city elite. They were often invited to parties and social gatherings by other elites.
However, wealth and came aren't always good. When Ryzen was 12, burglars broke into their fine house one night. The killed his father in his sleep and badly injured his mother before they made off with most of their possessions. With his father gone and mother to badly hurt to work, the quickly lost money and prestige. They eventually moved to a small house in the outskirts of the city.
Ryzen vowed that he would rid the city of crime the day his father died.
When he was old enough, he joined the police force and trained to be an investigator. After he graduated from the academy, he became a city investigator. His partner who was assigned to him was a beautiful woman called Clarra Debois. After a few years of working together, they fell in love and were married. They had a girl together they named Sarah.
Ryzen was happy with his life. At work, he would solve crime and catch criminals. At home, he had a wonderful family that was the joy of his life. They bought a house in the nicer part of town. It wasn't as nice as the house of his childhood, but he didn't care as lo my as his family was safe.
He eventually caught a high-ranking member of a prominent crime guild in the city. As retribution, the guild stormed the private school that Sarah attended and killed everyone inside. Ryzen was devastated as he watched his perfect world fall down around him. Clarra blamed Ryzen and went to her parents for a while. Ryzen continues work, but the numbness he felt made his work suffer. He has no ambition for it anymore. One night as he was in bed, he calmly decided he would kill who was responsible for the death of his child.
Clarra came back to him after a month. She was gaunt and a little crazy. Sarah's death drove her slightly insane. She told Ryzen that while she was at her parents', she met a group of people who took pity on her. They took her in an inducted her into their cult. There, she learned of a ritual that would satisfy her thirst for revenge. She needed Ryzen's help to complete it. Her desire for revenge was infectious, and he found himself agreeing.
Later that night, they began to perform an ancient and dark ritual. Ryzen was hesitant at first, but soon the ritual had enthralled them both. In an arcane circle drawn on the floor with both of their blood and illuminated by 9 candles, they shudders and prayed to ancient, dark entities in a foul language neither of them understood. Ryzen couldn't control his body, and he could only watch in horror at his and Clarra's actions.
At the climax of the ritual at the final stroke of midnight, a tear in reality opens between them and they can see into a nightmarish dimension full of abberant monstrosities. Two of these terrors slip into the room with them, and both Ryzen and Clarra open their mouths as these ghostly creatures fly down their gullets.
The creature from the crack in reality losses his body. He is a prisoner behind his own eyes as the alien presence begins transforming his body to its own liking. The savage intelligence of the creature commands his new body as bloodlust and the desire to kill overrides all other thoughts. What once where Ryzen and Clarra let loose twin bowls of rage as.the.bound off, homing in on the man who killed their child.
They both zero in on their target, the bestial instincts driving them onward. What was left of Ryzen's consciousness was locked away by the creature. Now, there was no Ryzen. There was only the creature.
They both find their target in a fine restaurant. He is a clerk of the city, but is also the leader of the crime guild. They both descend on him, crashing through the front windows and decimated him before he even knew what happened. Bloodlust unsatisfied, the animalistic horrors began slaughtering all they saw. City guards quickly responded, but they were no match against the pair of them. The city's mages were the ones who finally drove them out of the city after a long night of terror. The pair separated and went their own ways. What once was Ryzen travelled North, while what once was Clarra travelled East.
The thing that was once Ryzen became a predator of wild animals and beasts as it travelled North. It's intelligence was that of an animal. It took up residence in the Spine of the World mountain range and remained there for a year. One night while it was prowling, it was the lights of a town in the distance. It races towards it and closed in on the perimeter of the town. It was evening, and the small farming town of about 500 hundred souls were celebrating an annual festival. The creature stayed hidden in the tree line, waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack. A little girl of about 6 years old wandered away from her family and begins frolicking in a flowered meadow near where the creature was waiting. It was about to pounce when suddenly, a distorted memory rose in its mind. It was the memory of a similar child names Sarah. The creature froze in place, trying to comprehend what it was seeing. The mother of the girl came over and dragged the child away, but the creature still stood there pondering. That night, a spark of sentience was awoken in its mind.
Over the next few months, the creature began to grow in intelligence and comprehension. It developed its own personality separate from Ryzen's, who was still locked away. The creature would approach the town and watch the citizens interact and live. It wanted to interact with these people and learn their ways. One night while contemplating how it could do this, it remembered that this body wasn't always its own. Its desire to learn eventually caused it to release its hold on its body and allow the other entity to take control.
Ryzen awoke in his normal body on a mountain one night with no idea who he was. He had no idea where he was or who he was. While he was trying to understand what was happening, the creature who once controlled him (who named itself Gerizron) spoke in his mind. It explained that they were sharing bodies for some reason (It has no idea why as it just recently gained to ability to think.) It also said that it wanted to learn how to be like people. It said it was sorry for controlling Ryzen.
Ryzen agreed to teach it, but warned that he had no memories. That morning, he awoke to the sounds of a pickaxe striking stone. Curious to what the noise was, he followed it until he found Gundren Rockseeker and a crew of miners seeking out new spots for mines. Seeing Ryzen's state after a conversation, Gundren decided to take him under his wing.
Ryzen spent the next year working for Gundren. Gundred taught him what he needed to to know to become part of society, and Ryzen taught Verizon in turn. When Gundred said he needed people to move a caravan, Ryzen volunteered to help pay back the debt he owes Gundred. Maybe while he is working, something might spark some of his memories.
((That got really long and really dark really fast. Sorry if it is too long))
Backstory: Kayassa was born and raised in the Feywild like most of her kind, living to drink and party like the rest of her kin. At a young age she made the foolish mistake of angering an Archfey by commenting on their choice in clothing that day. Fortunately or perhaps unfortunately the powerful being decided that instead of killing her on the spot or worse, she would pay for her insult by serving them as a jester and sometimes retainer.
For the next several years of her life, Kayassa was sent out to do various tasks, some simply as a way to entertain the Archfey while other were much more dangerous. In order to keep her alive, her patron eventually gifted her a small portion of power which soon grew into a pact. To mark this a tattoo like sigil formed in the palm of her left hand. With her new magical abilities her patron had a new quest for her.
Something in the material plane had caught her patron's attention and they had decided that rather then go to such a boring and mundane place themselves that Kayassa would go fetch it instead. Without any warning she was flung into the material plane and ended up in one of the many forests that served as a crossing of the planes. Her patron gave her small hints of where to look, telling her to find some dwarf named Rockseeker, he would possibly lead her to current interest of patron. With little else to do, Kayassa set out to find the dwarf and see what she could do in order to return home.
Backstory: Member of a Gnomish cartographers guild, Osris long ago met a dwarvish band of explorers while mapping an ancient tomb far to the forests in the East. Through them, he made acquaintance with Gundren, and every so often pays him a visit in Neverwinter.
Class: Arcana Cleric (Later Multiclassing to Shadow Sorcerer)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Backstory: Born in an almost abandoned hamlet on the island of Alaron, Sahriel was thought to be an accursed child from the minute he was born from the freakish way shadows would act around him.
Raised only by his mother, Sabyll, Sahriel had a tough childhood. He did not only have the ill reputation of being a child of the shadows, Sahriel also was frail and unathletic unlike the other kids in his hamlet. It wasn't a surprise that no one wanted to befriend the pale, cursed kid.
But in spite of the hardship he had been through, Sahriel grew up curious, kind, and faithful to the Moonmaiden. His mother taught him the way of Selune.
Determined to make something of himself, Sahriel decided to work for Gundren Rockseeker, a friend of his mother that always helped them in times of need. Hoping that in the process of working for the Dwarf, he would dispel the rumors about himself, earn a living to support his aging mother, and find information about his estranged and mysterious father.
Note: I would love to play this, and The Curse of Strahd for the first time. I'm a very active PbP Player. However, may I suggest using Discord for the game. It'll be a lot easier. I can even help set it up if necessary.
I'm excited to play LMoP, as I've never played a module before. I've never seen a hybrid of LMoP and CoS, so this should be interesting. I'm definitely considering it.

During his wide travels seeking information about his parents and heritage, Thrax found himself coming to the aid of travelers and village folk in many parts of the realm. One such chance encounter brought him together with a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker, who was coming along the road just as Thrax fought off three brigands attempting to waylay a merchant on his way to Neverwinter. Sensing that he might make use of Thrax's skills, Gundren offered him a security job. Thrax, unemployed, and often refusing the coins his benefactors offered when he came to their aid, found it difficult to refuse the offer of decent pay for a job he'd find pleasure in doing. And perhaps he might find a link to his past in Phandalin...
Backstory: Ines has spent all her life in the temple of Lathlander in Waterdeep (Spires of the Morning) and shows promise as an excellent healer, but she lacks practical knowledge of the world around her. It was decided that she should go out and gain knowledge through experience while being a beacon of all that is Lathlander. She met Gunderen in a tavern shortly after arriving in Neverwinter. Upon hearing of her skills as a healer he offered her a job as an escort of supplies. It seemed as a good place as any to begin her journey out into the world.

Character: Grok
Race: Bugbear
Dormark Calling of Strahd (warforged cleric) 4
Ability scores: 11 14 16 13 15 12
Name: Ryzen Algernon
Race: Human (but using half-orc statistics)
Class: Barbarian (Path of the Beast)
Alignment: LG
Background: Customized Criminal (Investigator)

Race: Satyr
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Warlock (Pact of the Archfey)
Background: Courtier

Name: Sahriel Arcturus MacMagnus
Race: Variant Human

Metaxylene Thrax
Protector Aasimar Paladin
Longer backstory is on character sheet; in brief:

Name: Ines
Race: Human
Class: Life Cleric
Alignment: Neutral Good
Backstory: Ines has spent all her life in the temple of Lathlander in Waterdeep (Spires of the Morning) and shows promise as an excellent healer, but she lacks practical knowledge of the world around her.
