Yup, another one of those. I will be running this adventure to my real-life group soon and I wanted to get some experience with DMing because I have none, even if it's as PbP.
So, let's get to character creation! Actually, don't. I want to choose the players, and let them create their characters afterwords. Why? So I don't need to pick the party composition. The same thing as what happens when playing IRL. So if you're interested, post the following things:
Time Zone: I prefer to have the game flow as fast as possible. Not because I want it to be quick, but rather because I don't want it to drag. The characters debating for a whole week doesn't bother me while waiting an entire week due to slow communication does. This doesn't mean you have to be super active - and if you can't post for a few days just let me know and that will be fine. To get all this done, I prefer having players with similar time zones. My personal TZ is +2:00 GMT, so think for yourself if that seems comfortable with you. Oh, and please, post it in the same format I did (+- x:xx GMT) instead of PST, EDT, CST or any other combination of letters as they mean nothing to me. (Just think of IST. Does the "I" stand for Italy, India, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Ireland, Iceland or Indonesia? And most letters have much more options. There are 195 countries, after all.) D&D experience: Pretty self-explanatory. Order of preferred aspect of D&D, from most to least liked: For example Combat, RP, Exploration, Survival, other (specify). I want to form a group with shared likes and dislikes as to these things so that they can all have fun at the same time. This doesn't mean that if you put something unique first you won't get chosen. Now, some of you may already know the adventure and think: "Wait, you don't have all these in it." and you're right, but I have no problem tweaking the adventure to be more focused around one or two of these themes if I see a lot of interest in it. (Want a survival mode? NP. Just don't complain when you actually need to try to survive ;) ). Something interesting about yourself: Idk, just find something. It can even be something simple like "I like trains" or "I like baking".
Ah, there's a lot of explanation. Here's a clean form:
Time Zone: Experience: Order of preferences: Something interesting:
I will be taking no more than 4 players. Hopefully not less either. More info will be given when you're chosen. I know I said you don't create your character yet, but characters will begin on level 1. I'm saying this because I know some people care about which level you start at. I know I do anyway. Feel free to ask any questions. That said, if it's not related to the campaign don't ask it in a new comment, but rather post it with your application/a related question. I may or may not answer such questions.
Time Zone: CST (-6:00 GMT) D&D experience: 20+ years Order of preferred aspect of D&D, from most to least liked: RP, Combat, Exploration, Survival. Something interesting about yourself: I am a blind gamer.
Timezone: Central European ~GMT+1 (plus summertime shenanigans)
Experience: I've started playing this year (offline), but due to the lockdowns, both campaigns (DiA and homebrew) are currently paused at level 4. We've played for about 2-3 months. As for PbP, I've started my first campaign approx week ago (the links are in my signature).
Order of preference: Pretty balanced, I like exploration/puzzles a sligtly more, combat (no idea how PbP version works) and social stuff sligtly less.
Something Interesting: I like nature, so If I got chosen I'll probably end up playing Druid/Nature cleric/Archfey lock or some similar nature based archetype. Edit: I also like sticking to the existing lore/setting (e.g. I wont be playing warforged in Forgotten realms; but also I wont mind if others do)
One question, do you plan to play just the DoIP or also the followup adventures?
One question, do you plan to play just the DoIP or also the followup adventures?
We'll start with DoIP and then we'll see. Perhaps the followups, perhaps something else entirely. If, when we get to that point, the party chooses to continue beyond DoIP; that won't be a problem.
Time Zone: GMT -3 (Brazil) Experience: 20+ years Order of preferences: Combat > Exploration > Survival > RP Something interesting: D&D can save the world!
Experience: Started playing my first game in August 2018, although I knew how to play 6 months before that.
Order of preference: Not only are my interests balanced, I like to have them balanced in a game, sharing somewhat equal time. Nevertheless, from most to least liked: RP, Combat, Exploration. Survival is quite a bit less interesting than the others.
Something interesting: I added she/her to my D&D Beyond signature about two days ago, and I started using she/her somewhere about 5 months ago. Have less experience with that than with D&D.
Time Zone: +7:00 GMT Experience: I've been playing for around 8 months now, both live and PbP Order of preferences: RP, Combat, Exploration, Puzzle, Survival Something interesting: Hmm. I like Video Games, especially RPGs. Lately, I'm playing Baldur's Gate none stop. On the other hand, I'm very excited about the Tasha book that just came out. It gives many additional options for character creation, which is my favorite in DnD.
Time Zone: +3:00 GMT Experience: 5-6 years (a lot of it play-by-post) Order of preferences: other(funny / lighthearted), RP, Combat, Exploration, Survival Something interesting: I have 3 year old twins and it's uncanny how exactly the stages of development are reflected in the business world or rather people's behavior in general. Reflected in D&D as well - a one-year-old learns and affects their immediate surroundings (levels 1-5), a three-year-old is somewhat capable of operating in new environments, use tools and words to achieve specific goals (level 6-10 I guess). I also have an 18-year-old.. this is definitely 20th (or higher) level D&D character - thinks she knows everything and is all-powerful and all-knowing.
Time Zone: UTC -5:00 Experience: 30+ D&D, 5-7 pbp Order of preferences: Combat, RP, Intrigue, Exploration, Survival Something interesting: (Damn, I was gonna say something about being trans... got beat to the punch...) I'm like a renaissance nerd. I'm into almost everything just a little bit.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Coriana - Company of the Grey Chain Wagner - Dragon Heist: Bards. DM - The Old Keep
Time Zone: GMT -7:00 Experience: I started DnD last year, but been paying attention to it alot longer than that. Order of preferences: HMM tough question. I guess in this order. RP, Combat, Exploration, Survival. Something interesting: I like making monster characters with good alignments, and other weird characters. Don't know why I just do, and I love my oddballs. Other than that I think Dwarves and Warforge are cool.
Time Zone: -8:00 GMT Experience: 20+ Years, started rolling dice when I was 7. I have experience in every version of D&D as well as various other RPGs Order of preferences: RP, Other (teamwork heavy skill challenges), Combat, Exploration (Puzzles), Survival Something interesting: Hmmmm. I have a reccuring family of Halfling adventures that span the D&D multiverse named the Bristletoes. They will often bring up exploits of their "cousin" or "aunt" or "great great aunt twice removed" in conversation and those exploits are drawn from games I've had previously all the way back to one of my first characters Boigo Bristletoes; A Halfling paladin of Torm who I played long enough to become an avatar of the god himself.
Experience: Played AD&D back in the day. Long hiatus and started again in Dec last year here on D&DB. Never lost the love of the game.
Preference: Equally enjoy RP and Combat depending on others at the "Table". Following up would be exploration and then survival.
Something Interesting: The toilets DO NOT flush in the opposite direction in Australia! Seriously though, I live less than a kilometre from the edge of the bushfires that hit Victoria in January. That was a scary thing to go through.
Experience: Started playing dnd for the first time about 8 months ago. That first game is still current to this day. I have only ever played 1 PBP so I am still fairly new to this particular medium.
Order of preferences: Combat/RP are pretty even for me. Like a 60/40 split; exploration and games/puzzles I enjoy to a lesser extent, but I believe every game has a place for them; survival, honestly, doesn't even really make the list for me, it's just not something that interests me very much
Something interesting: Uh..... I own over a thousand books and I've read probably half of them? (I dunno, I'm terrible at talking about myself, sorry!)
Time Zone: +1:00 GMT Experience: Never done a D&D PBP game before. I have played a couple games IRL (and am a fan of several gameshows). I am, however, very experienced in general play-by-post style roleplay. Order of preferences: Exploration, Roleplay, Combat. I like exploring the settings and interacting with other players most of all. Something interesting: I like drawing. I like A24 horror movies. I'm currently trying to run a PBP game with friends on Discord as the DM but I need more experience with the format. I eat more ramen noodles than is healthy.
Time Zone: GMT Experience: D&D and a variety of other RPGs going back a few decades. My longest PbP went on for 5 years Order of preferences: Roleplay, exploration, combat, survival - for PbP at least that would be the order Something interesting: I used to do historical reenactment so I know what it feels like to be hit in the face with a shield.
