In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gurden Rockseeker asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough and tumble settlement of Phandalin. Gurden was clearly exited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big" and that he'd pay ten gold pieces for escorting his supplies to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arriveearly to "take care of business." You've been on the Tribor Trail for about two days now. As you come around the bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embarkment and dense thickets on either side.
Darius raised an eyebrow at the sight of the horses, then turned to glance at both sides of the trail.
"''Eads up, blokes," he growled with a hint of amusement in his voice, as he drew his rapiers. "Looks like someone wasted some good horse meat here to get our attention."
Darius thought his youth was hard. A stubborn boy with a stubborn, strict father, he thought that running off to sea would be the beginning of a grand new life!
He couldn't have been more wrong.
Once aboard the ship of the Dread Pirate Doomstein, he quickly found himself forced into subjugation by hardened sea criminals who didn't care whether he lived or died. He fought hard... the first couple of days. But eventually had to acknowledge he had no choice but to adapt to this new way of life.
Over time, he learned the ways of sailing, fighting, piracy, and more. Eventually, he found himself an established crewman, and it wasn't until the captain declared his retirement that he realized, not only could he do what he wanted, but he probably could have left years ago. But it was just that... he had nowhere to go, and nothing else to do.
Deciding against taking up a captaincy of his own, Darius decided to try his hand at adventuring. Perhaps with a few treasure chests full of gold, and a bit of renown, he could return back to his hometown as something other than a COMPLETE lost cause....
Alton draws his bow, his lips drawing to a thin line. "...Well, ain't this a smash? ...Any sign of the dwarves?" He asks aloud as he nocks an arrow and glances about... Hoping he can blend into the party with his natural stealthiness. Being in a cart and obscured by his human allies, surely that would allow him to Hide.

"Goblins? Pah!" spat Darius. They were nasty in numbers, but if they needed an ambush, chances were the goblins had reason to be cautious.
"LOOK HERE!" the pirate yelled out, stepping forward as he looked around. "Let our employer go, RIGHT NOW, and we can forget all this nasty business."
Clinking the blunt edges of his swords together in the air, he finished, "otherwise, let's just get this over with. Haven't had goblin stew in quite a while, yeah?"

At the back of the cart you see a gnome named Gimbel Murnig. He has chain mail armour with a pack on his back. When he sees the goblins he draws his shield and mace and says "Let the Morninglord protect us in this battle"

Having seen their opponents aiming their weapons, Darius decided to rush the ambushers. Sprinting straight toward them, he again yelled out, "COME ON! I'M RIGHT HERE, YA COWARDS!"

The horses are clearly Durnan's and Sildar's. With a sharp eye, you spot three goblins hiding in the brush, waiting.
