What are some of your favorite ways to use a skill proficiency with a different ability check?!
On page 175 of the PHB they list two examples of this: a constitution (athletics) check and a strength (intimidation) check.
Some of my favorites are: a wisdom or intelligence (persuasion) check, an intelligence or charisma (stealth) check, and strength or intelligence (acrobatics) check.
In Xanathar's Guide to Everything, they bring up some brief rules on tying and untying knots:
To tie a knot, make a Sleight of Hand check, but using Intelligence, no DC. Untie the knot with the same kind of check, using the first check's result as the DC. Here's an example:
Guard ties up fighter's hands and makes a Sleight of Hand check with Intelligence instead of Dexterity. Rolls a 14 but has +0 in Intelligence and no proficiency, so result is 14. Rogue sneaks up and tries to untie the knot, making a Sleight of Hand check with Intelligence instead of Dexterity. Rolls 12, has -1 in Intelligence, but has expertise in Sleight of Hand, giving a +6 bonus to the check. Result is 17, successfully untying the knot.
Charisma (Religion) to contact a deity/request divine aid from another plane with which you're not necessarily affiliated. (got the idea from Descent into Avernus, in the Elturel chapter)
