Open question, I can't seem to find a definitive answer to; I feel they are either close to are at the speed of light | instant, and or change speed based on distance to there target but nothing exact.
Anyway the reason I'm asking's just that one of my players a Rouge with a dam high dex ponded if he could react just fast enough to dodge, go stealth a missile(s) if he had enough distance from it, bringing up question of how fast one travels at.
Like it's probably not something that will come up offen but it's something that might be useful to know just in case.
(I wasn't sure at the time and simply did a high skill check since he was quite the distance away. He rolled high so I let him.)
Well it reaches up to 120 feet in less than 6 seconds. You may have been way too nice to let them avoid the damage considering it is an auto hit. Really the only thing that can block magic missile is the shield spell. The only thing the rogue could do as a reaction would be their uncanny dodge, which would only work for one of the missiles.
A key feature of Magic Missile, is that it is a guaranteed hit (except for when blocked by Shield), balanced by dealing less damage than other 1st level spells. To answer your questions, the missiles (described as darts) move however fast they need to, in order to achieve this. I tend to narrate them moving as fast as a bolt from a crossbow, or indeed, a dart.

Uncanny dodge would not work against Magic Missile, as it isn't an Attack, as no attack roll is made. Check P194 of the PHB: 'If there's ever any question whether something you're doing counts as an attack, the rule is simple: if you're making an attack roll, you're making an attack.'
Whichever way you slice it, RAW, there's no getting out of the way of a Magic Missile - and that's the intent of the spell.
One of the key traits of the magic missile is that it's a homing weapon. If he moved out of the way, the magic missile would just alter its trajectory and follow him, still hitting him. If he put something in between him and the missile, the missile would go around the obstruction. If he somehow goes into a completely impenetrable bubble that isn't caused by the Shield spell, the missile just goes through the bubble as if it doesn't exist, or it hits him before he can enter the bubble. Whatever.
Unless something explicitly says it allows you to avoid a magic missile, you will be hit.
I had recorded the audio of the session just in case stuff like this and the Rouge had readied an uncanny dodge and action to go invisible with a Ring of Invisibility; The spell was cast at 220 ft away via the feat that doubles spell cast distance can't remember.
I probably might of been too easy on him, but since he had advantage distance and actions ready to use, I felt a skill roll will be fine just to get combat going.
The Rouges argument is since he can go invisible he cant be seen thus the missile can't home in on him; "Each dart hits a creature you can see".
So yeah anyway the speed for me as you said as fast as they need to be, but a about as fast as a crossbow bolt.
Well anyway thanks for your input. I feel I've got a better idea know.
If he has to either ready an action to put on the ring either as the readied action or a reaction then it is too late as the caster was able to see the rogue as he was casting the spell... that is however my interpretation, if you are unable to cast shield, then you get hit by magic missile.

The ring was already on just not active he used a readied bonus to activate it; And a readied action to dodge, both as a reaction to something.
Like he had actions preped basically for something like this. I normally as everyone says it hits unless magic sheild just this case, useing the line of sight aspect, I let it pass with a difficult skill roll if he failed he would get hit, otherwise. The reason I was queried the speed was for future reference. So Eeh, it seems like it's a one time thing. So no bigge.
That only works with shield. Sorry rogue, you're gonna eat some missiles.
I should of noted he did later on in the session; He ate a lot, if were to guess at least 3/4 of them. Well that's what happens when you piss of the mages guild, Oof.
Thinking about it he did have shield on his, he could of casted it if he wanted to. Eeh table ruled Rule of Cool and I did too. Next time though, I don't think they are going to be casting Magic Missiles.

Ready requires an action regardless of what you are readying, so to ready a bonus action, you must spend an action (and likely lose your attack for the round). If you somehow had 2 actions via action surge or the like, you could only use one readied action since it requires your reaction to use.

The speed of magic missile isn't determined but think roughly about the speed of an arrow/crossbow or thrown weapon.
Keep in mind the action triggering the reaction happens then the reaction happens after that.
When the trigger occurs, you can either take your reaction right after the trigger finishes or ignore the trigger.
Thus the magic missile still hits.
With the rule of cool however, I likely would go with rewarding the idea and make the magic missiles miss the rogue and re-target the closest (to the rogue) of the rogues allies (not an idea situation), rather than having the spell simply miss everything.

You can't Ready a bonus action. Bonus actions can only be used during your turn.
The last two words are the key ones. The rogue was visible when the foe cast magic missile so the rogue got hit.
Reactions (with the specific exception of shield) won't help because they happen after the triggering attack.
