You reach terminal velocity after falling about 1500 feet which takes about 12 seconds. D&D just takes a lot of short cuts. After all, speed does not equal damage 1 to 1, and the rate of gravity could be different in the forgotten realms.
Is there a table anywhere for the damage dealt from falling at different heights? Is it just a damage dice per height increment?
1d6 per 10 feet fallen, to a max of 20d6. The damage type is bludgeoning.

No problem. I would honestly make there be a cap at 100d6, but those are the rules above.

Just remember, even in the "real" world, falls from extreme height aren't always fatal - like these lucky sods
