Subtle Spell: Interaction with Spells with Material Components?

How does Subtle Spell: Interaction with Spells with Material Components?     If you use a Spellcasting Focus?    (Or, if you don't use a Spellcasting Focus?)    If a Spell Component has a "cost"?    Does line of sight come into play on any of this?

The text of the metamagic makes it pretty clear:

Subtle Spell

Cost: 1 Sorcery Point

When you cast a spell, you can spend 1 Sorcery Point to cast it without any Verbal, Somatic, or Material components, except Material components that are consumed by the spell or that have a cost specified in the spell.

You don't need to use a focus because the material component is waived (except in the cases outlined like the component being consumed or having a cost, but then the spellcasting focus couldn't be used then, either).

Subtle has no interaction with LoS.  If the spell requires it (and I think all or nearly all spells do), then it still would.

Can I assume that the wording of 2024 Subtle Spell was the intention for 2014 Subtle Spell:  'When you cast a spell, you can spend 1 sorcery point to cast it without any somatic or verbal components." - source:  https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/6-sorcerer#ClassFeatures)?  (Otherwise, I think I did something or got away with something,  I wasn't supposed to.)

Ah, sorry... didn't realize you were referencing the '14 version of the spell with your question.  I agree with wagnarokkr.  There is no ambiguity in the wording of 5.14 that needed to be clarified with the updated 5.24 version.  They simply buffed it for the revision.  If you are running 5.14 and used subtle to waive the material component, then you indeed got away with something you shouldn't have.

 By the rules, yes, sorcerers need to worry about components, even though their power is innate.

Except that:

• A component pouch or arcane focus can be used in place of most material components
• The subtle spell metamagic also lets you ignore most material components (in 2024 rules)
