(the sound of thunderous stampeding, drunken laughter, and widespread property damage resonates in the distance)
...they're coming...dear gods, they're COMING...
...it's all those new satyr characters players are going to roleplaying, with the release of the new Theros source book!
And if you're anything like me, you're HYPED to create a character with this impressive race.
Bonuses to Dexterity & Charisma...natural horn weapons...proficiencies in Persuasion & Performance...35ft movement & bonuses to their jump height...MAGICAL RESISTANCE...
Anticipating all of this, I thought it'd be cool to quickly create a thread where you players can talk about your favorite things about this race, discuss what class you feel goes best with it, and share all the characters you plan on creating with the satyr.
Although i'm kinda disappointed that the Returned apparently aren't a thing...the Satyr do look interesting. I'm trying to remember if there are any "heroic" Satyr characters in fiction...does Danny DeVito in Hercules count?
How? Not really. Only a +1 bonus to Dexterity, the charisma does nearly nothing for them, and most of their other abilities don't help them either.
Considering that they are Fey creatures, they DO pair well with the new Fey Wanderer subclass...
Fey Wanderer rangers get proficiency in Deception or Persuasion, which goes good with the Satyr's Charisma bonuses...later, the Fey Wanderer adds their Wisdom modifier on top of that.
So these rangers can be quite charming.
Plus...the satyrs leaping ability, as far as navigating terrain, seems fitting. The more I think about it, the more I like.
I have a cynical satyr idea. The Satyr of Satire. A Whispers Bard, enjoying the darker side of life.

A saytr stars druid/fey wanderer. Longbow all the way. Jump over them. Ram them. Charm them. Kill them. That, or maybe a druid that is like Mr tumnus, from LWatW (lion witch and the wardrobe), and pick up or make a an instrument of illusions. And control flames for that. Maybe bard could work.

'The Cleverness of mushrooms always surprises me!' - Ivern Bramblefoot.
Perhaps a satyr follower of Lliira; one of her joydancers, or perhaps Avandra, bringer of good luck.
Make them a bard (College of Eloquence seems fun), and have them travel the land, song & dance, and visiting every festival or celebration along their journey.
Secretly have them be a vigilante who shuts down bringers of misfortune.
The satyr I've rolled up is a divine soul sorcerer. She went with "chaos", and has lots of spells that mess with peoples heads (suggestion, command, and the like). I eventually plan on her taking a few levels in bard for college of Eloquence (I want that silver tongue ability, but I also want sorcerer magic manipulation goodness). She's all about being a satyr, with the love of revelry and the like. I've wanted to play a satyr since, well, much earlier editions than this one.
Player in my campaign is a satyr prostitute sorcerer . She was left with the elven madame of a brothel as a baby and over 100 years has decided to follow her “mother” into the profession. She has never seen another of her race (they have either been hunted by one of the evils in the game, or are now hiding deep in the fey wild).
I was think a satyr bard collage of the satire/monk way of the drunken master would be a lot of fun, giving some enemies a real hoof beating while being able to move alot and jump around the battle field

Backgrounds, story, personality, looks...go nuts.

Sounds like Xenagos! The evil Satyr guy that nearly destroyed Theros. Lovely guy.

Yeah, the planeswalker that became a god! I was reading up on Theros lore before buying this book, and he's kind of like an evil Dionysus.

A satyr paladin to Dionysus.

I did this for a one shot, with a couple of levels of rogue added in. Fun, but oh my, she was powerful.
I’m thinking wild magic sorcerer/ swashbuckler. A charismatic rogue, until the wild magic hits😂
I was think a satyr bard collage of the satire/monk way of the drunken master would be a lot of fun, giving some enemies a real hoof beating while being able to move alot and jump around the battle field
Satyrs are awesome. I think it would be fun to play a Satyr cleric of Dionysus, or maybe make him a druid or divine soul sorcerer.
Way of drunken master would also be awesome.
A wild magic barbarian would be fun.
Or a Satyr paladin of the ancients who serves Aslan.
Or a Satyr bard that specializes in satire.
