Do they turn hard? I believe they are only usable for a short period of time. Before you answer, please allow me to explain why I ask. My good friend was turned to stone by a Medusa. I mourned and even though we did a side quest to cure our stoned friends with basilisk parts, he had to make a con save and rolled a nat 1. I want to know if the 2 good berries he gave me 3-4 days before would be hard enough to make a necklace out of to remember him by.

Life gives you lemons, make lemonade, life gives you a sword? You make corpses of your enemies, sorcery is a good sword life has given you. (Stolen from friend)
After reading the description, that after 24 hours they become normal berries and behave as such. The spell says they lose their potency, not that that disappear. Would a normal berry dry out like that? I don't rightfully know. The rules don't cover this, so at the end of the day it would be up to the DM.
Me personally? Hell yes, I am allowing this.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

I mean, as long as the party isn't trying to escape from a pit of death by filling it with a thousand goodberrys, any DM worth your time would allow it for the cool roleplaying. Actually, I would allow an expired goodberry ballpit.

I'd probably allow that, too. If they give enough time to get that many goodberries, and use a bag of holding/portable hole to hold them, I'm fine with this.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
The DM came up with one idea about using something that didn't work and finally just said I could take them to the local market where a tinkering sort of fellow makes all kinds of crap. I'm going to have a unicorn painted on one because thanks to my friend who died, I saw my first ever unicorn (in the underdark no less) and a musical note on the other one to represent how much that guy made me laugh.

If you know the fact berries are expiring fruits, then it's easy guessing what they gonna turn into. Then, after spending a round/turn on an Investigation check, one must decide if those berries are still edible, or else roll a Constitution saving throw ( for a nice poison damage over your digestive system).
Rolling for constitution is actually a pretty good idea once the berries have turned bad, and each day that passes makes the dice throw result you need for your save higher!
I would think they would go all raisin-like. Many smooth, round berry fruits go all raisin-y when they start to dry out and rot (likes grapes and cherries).

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
For some reason, I think of them like green peas. Which is quite silly. I just hoped they would turn hard enough to put a hole through to make a bead necklace and even raisins dry out eventually so even if they were wrinkly....uh, I dunno.

for something that's just flavor and story, not sure why any DM would not allow it.

Option 1. Raisins and prunes.
Option 2. Seeds for the good-berry bush.
3. They loose their magic and taste exactly like blueberries. 9 out of 10 taste like ripe blueberries. the 10th tastes rotten.
