So do humanoids "realistically" speaking would enjoy seeing with their darkvision? so for example, an elven citezen walking back home during night time, would they get a lantern/a torch or just rely on dark vision? 

This curiosity since all my players will do whatever it takes to get their hands on darkvision as it is "superior" as they say to having a torch and they aren't sure why would citizens even use light sources any way since they have dark vision.

oh wow, thanks! you answered my question and even more, i keep forgetting that dim light turns off darkvisison. But, this would also answer the question as to why the humanoids in the world would prefer seeing in light rather than with darkvision.
