Can someone please explain whether Power Surging a Magic Missile would calculate? Due to the Evoker's ability making it a d4+1+Int mod per bolt it leaves me thinking that this would be a d4+1+half wizard level per bolt. But that seems a bit... strong.
Going the other way though seems off (a xd4's+1 per bolt plus half wizard level after calculating the bolts damage).
I've not been able to find any answers anywhere.

Simply; it's more. A 8th level war wizard, expending a use of Power Surge on a magic missile deals an extra four force damage while an evoker of the same level deals an extra three.

The difference is that Power Surge is applied "once per turn" while Empowered Evocation is applied "one damage roll", and magic missile is RAW a single damage roll, despite that most groups likely choose to roll multiple dice (it's written as rolling 1d4+1, once, and that result applies for each missile - people roll it as 1d4+1 for each missile), which is how the Empowered Evocation bonus damage applies to all of the missiles equally.

How are you reading that the RAW is one damage role, applied to each missile? The description says:
"You create three glowing darts of magical force. Each dart hits a creature of your choice that you can see within range. A dart deals 1d4 + 1 force damage to its target. The darts all strike simultaneously, and you can direct them to hit one creature or several."
In the absence of a specific instruction to use one role, I read that as meaning you role separately for each.

It's 1d4+1 for each bolt and then half your wizard level to one of the targets.

Not disagreeing, but may I ask how this differs from the Evoker's ability to add their mod?

Empowered Evocation triggers when you roll damage. Power Surge triggers when you deal damage.
I'm not entirely sure why that matters, but it's the difference.
