I've been wanting to make a druid for some time and my favorite race is dragonborn. Would a dragonborn druid make sense? I know they use primal energies because they're made by/of dragons but a dragonborn druid internally feels very weird and kind of wrong, like they're meant to be arcane/divine casters. I know it's a "Your game, you play your way" deal but I'm curious on what you all think of dragonborn druids.
Makes perfect sense to me. You could even have some fun with the idea of someone with innate arcane energy still choosing to study nature instead. I think, but i'm not 100% certain, that you can even still use your Breath Weapon while Wild Shaped, since you retain the powers and features of your race while wild shaped, assuming the new form can physically justify it. Breath Weapons are kind of in a weird area because if it's considered a purely organic function of your dragon-like body it wouldn't make sense, but if it's some kind of arcane source within yourself you could justify still having access to it even if you're transformed into a squirrel or something.
Sure, why not? I mean, I read what you wrote, but I just don’t understand it. If a Dragonborn takes an interest in nature and serving the spirit of the world (or whatever), then why shouldn’t they? It’s like saying a High Elf shouldn’t be a Druid, or a Wood Elf shouldn’t be a Wizard. Why not?
As primal beings they should work well as Druids. I went back to look at the PHB after your comment of arcane/clerical and couldn’t find anything I interpreted that way. If anything it says they turn to each other and the other clans of Dragonborn before turning to the gods for help. So a Druid drawing on the primal energies of te world around it makes perfect sense to me. I could even see a Druid/sorceror or Druid/mage multiclass drawing on both the primal and arcane energies of the world as being very dragnbornish.
Sure, why not? Unless the world your DM has built includes a very specific role for Dragonborn culture, I'm sure you could come up with interesting reasons why a Dragonborn might choose the life of a Druid. Dragons are an ancient force in most D&D worlds, being connected to that could lead to a desire to understand and protect the natural world, a solid fit for Circle Of The Land. Circle Of Stars would be a great choice for a Dragonborn who studied the heavens, trying to unlock the secrets of the universe. Circle Of Wildfire could be a fun choice for the three fire-based Dragonborn ancestries. And of course, any type of Dragonborn could be an orphan, outcast or wanderer looking for a purpose in life who encounters a Druid conclave that offers them a higher calling. And if being a Dragonborn Druid feels weird to you, play into it! If they get funny looks when they travel from people who also think the idea is kinda weird, does it make your character self-conscious? Do they enjoy challenging people's preconceptions? Maybe one of their goals is to inspire others, help them realize they don't have to be limited by what people expect of them. Let your imagination run wild :)
Before Fizban's playing a Dragonborn Druid might have been a bit unusual if you go by the "Dragonborn pick sides in the cosmic war between Good and Evil" blah blah blah, but with Fizban's published, you can also be a Gem Dragonborn. Gem Dragons are more on the neutral side of things. They also have telepathy, so now you can communicate with your party while Wildshaped. Oooh, and they get to fly at level 5, which means you can be a Flying Brown Bear or Flying Constrictor Snake!
I do not see why not. If you think about it two powerful features of the druid are it's affinity for nature and animals, dragonborn are part animal and prefer a solitary life surrounded by nature over city life. Having a character with both gives you a firmer grounding in nature, inborn resistance, additional strength, size and resistances from your dragon heritage. While retaining your druid properties and capabilities. It's a small bonus but you also have your dragon breath.taken into consideration with the other adaptable features and innate bonuses it makes dragonborn druid a viable quality selection for a character.

It's your character, you write the backstory and character however you want it. Dragonborn druid sounds fine. Also, a druid IS a divine caster.
Anyway, I would go for stars druid for this, and they even have a dragon starry form.
Yes I agree. This is my first time playing DND and I chose a dragon born druid! I'm am really enjoying using this combo. It is also cool because you can use your dragon ansestry with your elemental powers to really deal some hits.

Druids don’t have an intrinsic alignment/neutrality bent in 5e, so choosing sides isn’t a major issue

I mean there is a Circle of Dragons in The griffon's saddlebag if that seems up your alley.
