So, in the high level campaign I'm in, my gestalt wizard/fighter character is currently trapped in a forcecage box with an enemy npc. I've been trying to come up with some strategies to deal with my current situation.
What I'm thinking, is casting True Polymorph to turn myself into an Earth Elemental, and then using Earth Glide to escape the forcecage, going underneath it. Now, in the spell's description, it says you can't escape by nonmagical means. Would an Earth Elemental's Earth glide ability be considered nonmagical, or magical?
I have no clue, however other methods (which may or may not work I'm not entirely sure) are:
Spam Misty Step or other teleportation until you succeed the CHA saving throw
Disintegrate should destroy it? It says it destroys creations of magical force, and explicitly lists Wall of Force as one thing it can disintegrate? The two spells are pretty similar.
Antimagic Field? I admit, using a 8th level spell slot to counter a 7th level spell isn't great spell economy, nor do I know if your high enough level for that.

I still say gaseous form should work. It’s a magical effect (requires concentration and therefore not natural by any means), and can escape a Forcecage (only the barred version, mind you).
I'm a 20th level wizard. I actually hadn't thought of using Disintegrate. Forcecage does say, that it's composed of magical force
It does not say Disintegrate will work, so it will not.
Why not turn into an earth elemental and destroy the badguy?
It specifically says in the disintegrate spell, that a target of the spell can be "a creature, an object, or a creation of magical force, such as the wall created by wall of force." The phrase "such as," is synonymous to "for example." It also says, further down, "This spell automatically disintegrates a Large or smaller nonmagical object, or a creation of magical force. If the target is a Huge or larger object or creation of force, this spell disintegrates a 10 ft cube portion of it."
Because Forcecage says it is "composed of magical force," Disintegrate should affect it.

Or turn into a dragon or other CR 20 creature. That would work better than a earth elemental.

I want to try to preserve my 9th-level spell slot. The enemy Wizard is undoubtedly gonna try to counterspell my disintegrate, and I’ll need it to counterspell his counterspell.
There is nothing saying Disintegrate will not work and the spell text of Disintegrate suggests it will.
So your options are Disintegrate or Antimagic Field.
You can try to spam a self-targeting teleport spell like Misty Step, or one that doesn't require a direct line like Dimension Door.
Use a spell or feature that will allow you to pass through the spaces between the bars (cage-type Forcage only). Spells like Gaseous Form can do this.
Targeting the mage who cast the Forcecage isn't best until you can free yourself. The spell requires no concentration, the box type prevents all attempts, and the cage-type might grant 3/4 cover to anyone you're attacking. If it's the cage-type, the enemy can still target spells into the cage such as Sickening Radiance or Cloudkill, or other continuous effect. Leaving yourself trapped just opens this option up - better to get free as fast as you can.

I’m pretty sure it’s the box. I would totally attempt to teleport out, if I thought I’d be successful. Charisma was my dump stat for this character (my CHA is a 4, so a -3 modifier). The wizard’s DC would be too high. Even with a nat 20, I wouldn’t be able to escape.
One cheeky option would be to use an extra dimensional space, like Rope Trick, to create a safe-ish pocket for yourself. The casting of the spell itself doesn't cause you to teleport or use interplanar travel, so a Charisma Saving Throw shouldn't be necessary, but once cast, all you need to do is climb through. If your opponent is large, then they probably can't follow you. If they're medium or smaller, then you've at least got the higher ground and some breathing room. If they can't fly or jump extreme heights, then the 20ft ceiling should be helpful.
You could cast Resilient Sphere on yourself to make you temporarily invulnerable while you decide the next best course of action.
Best case scenario, you can use Contingency to automatically target yourself with Far Step, or some other Escape Button in the event that you are trapped. Since it's already been cast, it can't be counterspelled.

My current plan is to disintegrate a hole in the forcecage, run past the enemy that's in there with me towards the rest of my party (one of whom is shapechanged into an ancient white dragon), then cast magnificent mansion and close the door, and then have the druid plane shift us out.
There is nothing saying Disintegrate will not work and the spell text of Disintegrate suggests it will.
Why would it specify it on Wall of Force but not Forcecage?
I can't answer this specifically as that would be up to the designers but my guess would be due to the Wall of Force spell modifying the effect of Disintegrate on it.
Since there's a lack of such for Forcecage we can rely on Disintegrate to determine how much it disintegrates from the magical force creation:
"This spell automatically disintegrates a Large or smaller nonmagical object or a creation of magical force. If the target is a Huge or larger object or creation of force, this spell disintegrates a 10-foot- cube portion of it. A magic item is unaffected by this spell."
If somebody uses the "Box" option for Forcecage it is 10 ft on a side as a cube - making it Large. Disintegrate removes all of it. If the "cage" option is used for Forcecage it is 20 ft on a side as a cube which makes it bigger than Huge - so Disintegrate removes only a 10-ft cube portion.
That is how Disintegrate works generically for creations of magical force.
However, Wall of Force is different because that spell says "A disintegrate spell destroys the wall instantly". So regardless of the size and configuration of the Wall of Force - the use of Disintegrate on any part of it destroys the entirety of it. This is specific to Wall of Force - it is more vulnerable to disintegrate as a weakness for compensating it's undispellable nature as a 5th level spell which Forcecage doesn't need due to its higher level.

You can't disintegrate the forcecage because the cage is invisible. Unless you have some way of seeing invisible objects.

Might want to run it by your DM, RAW it should work, but your DM might argue otherwise.
Edit: I mean Disintegrate btw, Farling does appear to be correct about borrowing under forcecage.

Forcecage creates a cube (which has 6 sides), so you can't burrow "under" it.
Earth Glide is not a magical effect (no mention of magic in it's description), so would fail.

Wait Wall of Force is also invisible
Edit: I guess Disintegrate is just one massive lie lol.
