Isn't it a bit weird that the UA new Transmuter wizard can cast Raise Dead for free at lev 14, but they can not cast Regenerate?
Raise Dead can not regrow or permanently reattach lost limbs and you kind of expect a highly skilled transmuter to be able to do that with his Philosopher Stone.
Regenerate is a much more powerful and useful spell, for one. Raise dead is nice, but most often, someone is going to use revivify. Raise dead is practically a ribbon ability with as infrequently as it will come up. It is pretty great to have on the wizard as a back up, but I don’t think it will come up often. A free cast of regenerate is something you’d use every day. Or at least every day you have a fight. Gaining even 1hp at the start of each turn means you never have to make a death save, you practically can’t die. (I mean, you still can but it’s going to be really difficult) And wizards only get one level 7 spell per day until level 20. So it would double the number of level 7 spell per day. That’s very, very powerful.

Good point!
I think it should not be available for free, but just be added to the spell list and maybe be always prepared. Just not castable without a spell slot.
Otherwise the only thing it comes to mind is to cast Wish to emulate Regenerate which is admittedly cool.. but every 17+ wizard can do it.
I just imagine the pinnacle of Trasmutation being something akin to the end of FullMetal Alchemist.. making a body whole again. Following this example, let's say your transmuter is missing an arm and would like to have it again..
They could technically cast True Polymorph on themselves choosing their own species.. but even if permanent it would be dispellable. And, even more hilariously they would become mute and incapable of casting spells ever again.. talk about Equivalent Exchange..

Or am I missing some workaround at higher level?
