I know this is something that depends on the DM, but I am curious as to what other player have experienced. Did you RP your initial Pact or was it part of your character's back story? How and How often does your patron interact with you?
I am both a player and a DM in different campaigns and I am interested in any stories or experiences you are willing to share.
Forever DM here, it depends on the patron's personality but for the most parts (even for no-Warlocks) they do talk to their Warlocks every now and then reminding the warlock of what needs to be done... or ask them few odd questions.

Born under the watch of something from the furthest corners of the far realms.... It knows all.... it sees all... and it asks: "What is it that you want to see?"... and my answer is... ALL"
My tiefling fiendlock's patron talks to her all the time. She wishes that he'd stop, but he's her father (or at least calls himself that).
or ask them few odd questions.
Now I'm imagining a warlock whos patron keeps contacting her to ask how to make netflix work on their new TV or why their phone isn't working how they want it to, and the warlock having to explain in exasperated tones to their patron. Obviously D&D equivalents, so netflix on a crystal ball and why they have no volume on their scrying stone.
My patron talks to me, I requested help in a battle and he came through clutch. However we didn't confirm a kill in one of our most recent fights, now he is pissed off at me and I have lost access to Dark ones own luck until I rectify the situation (I hope lol).
Currently playing a Tiefling Fiendlock working to usurp the archdevil who has enslaved his family for generations.
My patron never talks to me unless I try to contact him. We've worked out that I can basically ask him and get answers equal to an identify spell, but not too often or he'll get mad.

My character is a Changeling Hexblade Warlock, and my patron is Karsus (you know, that bloody rock in the middle of the High Forest). My pact was just a part of my backstory. My character was originally a female elven warrior during the War of the Silver Marches, but her battalion was slain and scattered. She wandered across the bloody rock, who spoke in her mind and made a pact with her that he would become his perfect warlock warrior that would do everything he commanded to restore Netheril, covering her in magical blood and transforming her into a Changeling Warlock. She then became Chance, a gender-neutral shapeshifter that can also transform their weapons into anything they need.
Karsus never talks to my character unless he has a mission for them, which ends up being pretty frequently. He magically writes blood on a stone altar at my home base (Ascore), which disappears once I have read it. I have to respond by cutting myself and writing in my own blood.
My patron doesn't talk to me, but occasionally sends me vague visions. I was chosen without my knowledge after a magic summoning (by a wizard) went horribly wrong. My patron was accidentally summoned, and decided that I was a good fit for his needs. My character can't recall the details, but "knew" something had happened. During an attempted mugging in the dock ward (Waterdeep), I discovered my ability to cast eldritch blast.
After that I engaged in research until I had some idea of what was going on, and that night, I received my first vision and Purpose..which was to destroy aberrations (like Xanathar)

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Not actually that far off from how it's been. My GM does not really do serious games.
