An unassuming rock, except for a small glyph carved into its side. Once per day, as an action you may focus on this rock and merge your body into the rock. Your clothing, carried items, and equipment merge into the rock along with your body.
While merged with the rock, you may perceive your surroundings with vision and hearing equivalent to that of a human. You do not benefit from any racial traits or equipped items, but magical enchantments or spells targeting you remain in effect.
Once merged, you may remain in rock form for up to twenty minutes, after which you revert back to your normal form and appear in the nearest unoccupied space. The rock of rockening remains in place when you revert to your normal form and does not come with you while you revert.
What is the benefit of this?
The basic benefits are that you are disguised, but this could be used in a couple of other ways. You would be much easier to carry, able to make deep water dives, and you could even be thrown over walls or otherwise impassable gaps.
Could you throw the rock and meld into it while it is in flight, or did I not grok the rock?
It's probably a DM-level question, but maybe. If I were adjudicating this scenario, I'd make it a dex check to get the timing right, because it would be a pretty tricky thing.
