The Veracimeter is a legendary artifact once held by Agra Ishal, a founder of the Eight Roads Market and the Merchant's Guild. Ishal's razor-sharp wit and discerning eye made him an aggressive and effective negotiator, and was, of the four founders, the one with the most raw financial savvy. For demonstrating his devotion to commerce and his aptitude as a financier and merchant, Methis bestowed upon Ishal the Veracimeter, a small set of scales capable of measuring the veracity of a statement.

When within the presence of an attuned owner, the scales will default to a balanced state, regardless of items placed within them. When any creature within a ten foot cube of the scales utters an intentional lie, the scales fall out of balance, in a manner proportional to the "size" of the lie told (i.e., it's divergence from the truth as understood by the speaker).

*Attunement Note: If attunement is attempted by a creature on poor terms with Methis, the creature must instead make a DC 18 Charisma saving throw. On failure, the creature is incapable of telling falsehoods. The saving throw may be repeated each day at dawn.
