An intricate, beautifully made brass compass with four goblin heads at the four cardinal directions, in the style of grotesquerie.

Curse. This compass is cursed. Attuning to it curses you until you are targeted by the remove curse spell or similar magic. Removing the compass from your person fails to end the curse on you, and the longer you have it, the more unwilling you are to remove or destroy it. The nature of the curse will not reveal itself upon attunement, but it can be discerned by use of the identify spell.

While cursed, you believe yourself to know how to get wherever you need to go, but will in fact unfailingly choose the wrong direction (or, if there is no wrong direction, the most dangerous path). You become resistant to criticism of your orienteering skills, and if questioned will insist that you "have a really good sense of direction and this cool compass." Even hard evidence--such as plotting both paths on a map--cannot convince you that you are wrong.
