This artificial eye replaces a real one that was lost or removed. While the ersatz eye is embedded in your eye socket, it can’t be removed by anyone other than you, and you can see through the tiny orb as though it were a normal eye.
How would all y'all feel about excising the attunement requirement and just making it work in whoever's eyesocket it is in and only come out if the current user takes it out, without the need to spend one attunement?
i played an dnd character whos eyes were cut out by cults and the dm got annoyed and put this in the game cause i couldn't see anything and would go the opposite way the players would go sometimes if they didnt say anything about where they are going
As someone whose warlock just lost an eye (and gained disadvantage on all their eldritch blasts) I can tell you I will be hunting for one of these asap.

This is a great idea. The Sorcerer in the party found one and has only tried a Detect Magic on it and tried holding it up to his to look through it. I was considering using it to introduce Grievous Wounds to them by having his eye get cut but I think I like this more
So apparently when the next reprint for Xanathar's is released, they should be removing the attunement requirement the same as they did when they brought over the Prosthetic Limb from Eberron.
i was playing in a future campaign and my character lost his eye. i asked my dm if i could get a new one. he said the technology was "experimental" and i paid around 100 thousand gold to by one having to be in hospital for so long (of course i didn't argue its the dm) only for the next week for him to sell me a Ersatz eye for like 10 gold
I've always been of the opinion that if you don't intend to detach the eye in the near future this item + old school prosthetic limbs shouldn't be an attunement slot
im just saying i think if my players tossed there eyeball out with a pun i would give them advantage on a persuasion/intimidation roll granted only persuasion related to keeping an eye on someone but i reward puns
Eye agree!
(A different item that works when removed, or explicitly grants a non-human form of vision, should require attunement.)
All those in favor of dropping the Attunement requirement from Ersatz Eye, say "Aye!"
Or "Eye"? i!
But why does it require attunement? It’s a replacement eye.
EYE!
I can see a world where a player picks what they think is The Eye of Vecna, but once they attune it's just a Ersatz.

This is sooooo cool

Some people actually loose their eye sometimes like i seen one guy and his character got whipped with a big chain and lost his right eye.
And if you loose both eyes your character is considered blind permanently until they get new eyes.

This came in so helpful when my character lost his right eye.
if you use ranged weapons and lose a eye to like a deal with a hag or something this replaces it

It is frankly ridiculous that this requires attunement, magical or no. It’s not like a prosthetic arm requires attunement.

its a glass eye that works like a real one, that only you can take out
