Inside this heart-shaped box are eight unusually shaped chocolates. Each chocolate is beautifully crafted, with unique and delicate designs that evoke imagery of the Feywild. The box weighs 1/2 pound plus 1/8 pound for each chocolate it contains.
You can use an action to remove a chocolate from the box and eat it. The chocolate begins to magically melt as soon as it is removed from its heart-shaped container, and its magic is lost if uneaten by the end of your turn. Roll a d8 and consult the following table to determine which chocolate you eat, and its corresponding effect.
As part of the action to remove a chocolate from the box, you can choose to make a DC 17 Intelligence (Investigation) check to attempt to identify the chocolate before it is eaten. On a success, you can roll twice on the table and choose which roll to use. On a failure, roll twice on the table, and your DM chooses which roll to use.
| d8 | Chocolate |
| 1 | Caramel. You are unable to speak for 1 minute, as chewy caramel cements your teeth together. |
| 2 | Cherry Cordial. The unexpected combination of flavor and texture leaves you retching and reeling. You are incapacitated until the end of your next turn. |
| 3 | Coconut. The sound of chomping fills your ears, as you chew a seemingly endless amount of coconut shavings. You are deafened for 1 minute. |
| 4 | Espresso Dark Chocolate. A jolt of energy suffuses your body. Your speed increases by 10 feet for 1 minute. |
| 5 | Mint Chocolate. Chilled by icy cool mint, you gain resistance to fire damage for 1 minute. |
| 6 | Truffle. Bolstered by the decadent texture of chocolate truffle, you gain 1d4 + 1 temporary hit points. |
| 7 | Whiskey. You become immune to the frightened condition for 1 minute as fiery liquor smolders within your belly. |
| 8 | White Chocolate. The extreme lack of chocolate flavor is jarring and leaves you with a prolonged feeling of disappointment. You have disadvantage on ability checks for 1 minute. |

Posted Feb 9, 2022Not every table is ranked by relative goodness! Here, we’ve gone for alphabetical order by chocolate type. And these chocolates are a bit chaotic, like a Wild Magic Surge. :)

Posted Feb 10, 2022Even wild magic surge is mostly ranked by bad=low number, good=high number, because that's how this game works, rolling high number is good thing.

Posted Feb 10, 2022I like the fact it's not the general bad to good. There's no 'increase die mechanism' so alphabetical is great - it makes you worried about your role if your dm doesn't tell you what each number does in advance.

Posted Feb 10, 2022This item is slander against white chocolate and I won't allow that.
In my version, white chocolate will just make you immune to all damage and effects for one minute, because that's the treatment it deserves

It should bestow the benefits of a heroes' feast spell.

Posted Feb 11, 2022@anyone who disagrees with the placements on the table
fight me
i accidentally ate a cherry cordial yesterday, and dying would have been the second worst thing I would have sensed that day
the coconut criticism is about the fact that all of the shavings get annoying to chew after a while
white chocolate is a disgrace to chocolate
finally the person who made this needs to buff the positive effects: I would not risk anything for the lackluster positives, especially in combat where it seems they're meant to be used.

Posted Feb 13, 2022There is 1 beneficial effect. 1/8 is horrible odds. i can see this being hucked box and all into monster's mouths to inflict quite a disadvantage on them, especially since the other things supposed to be benefits are so easily overcome.
All in all this is a horrible item created by someone who hates chocolate, fey, and love it would seem.

Posted Feb 14, 2022I am shocked and saddened by this disrespect to the noble Cherry Cordial! 😆
I would probably tailor the content and effects to the tastes of my players; one of them would be aghast not to find any with peanut butter… and the cherry is the best thing in the box, if I’m considering my preferences!
Feels like a trip to my local confectionery store would give some inspiration… 🤔
