This fine black cloth, soft as silk, is folded up to the dimensions of a handkerchief. It unfolds into a circular sheet 6 feet in diameter.
You can use an action to unfold a portable hole and place it on or against a solid surface, whereupon the portable hole creates an extradimensional hole 10 feet deep. The cylindrical space within the hole exists on a different plane, so it can’t be used to create open passages. Any creature inside an open portable hole can exit the hole by climbing out of it.
You can use an action to close a portable hole by taking hold of the edges of the cloth and folding it up. Folding the cloth closes the hole, and any creatures or objects within remain in the extradimensional space. No matter what’s in it, the hole weighs next to nothing.
If the hole is folded up, a creature within the hole’s extradimensional space can use an action to make a DC 10 Strength check. On a successful check, the creature forces its way out and appears within 5 feet of the portable hole or the creature carrying it. A breathing creature within a closed portable hole can survive for up to 10 minutes, after which time it begins to suffocate.
Placing a portable hole inside an extradimensional space created by a bag of holding, handy haversack, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it and deposited in a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can’t be reopened.

Posted Nov 29, 2020Note that there is no size limitations or save required, so even a gargantuan creature, like say, a tarrasque, could be sucked through

Posted Mar 10, 2021Question for those who have used this item:
Can this be used as a bag of holding in that you can use a bonus action to retrieve an item from it, should you reach into the folds of the cloth? Or is it solely a portable storage closet?
I'm imagining a character has the cloth tied up into a pouch on their side and then reaching in to take a Warhammer out on their turn; instead of said character taking their turn to lay out this dinner cloth to then retrieve their same Warhammer and proceed to then fold up the cloth and finally proceed to attack? I see the give and take being that you'd only to be able to fit like 1 Warhammer in with your other objects and it's far from infinite like the bag of holding.
I really suppose in the end it could be a flavor addition up to DM discretion if needed in a pinch, but I'm curious if anyone thinks I'm just stretching things here for sake of convenience. Thoughts?

Posted Apr 17, 2021Yeah, we are at the Day of the Damned... Pc's investigating villa at the part the cassallanters are throwing... Captain Zord is there weaving his plots to ge the money with (or without) the pc's help... that is one way out for the gold for them... they dont know about that yet and are intending to get it out in the carnival chests carrying the equipment from the entertainers, obviously that would only get a small amount out... we see how it plays out :)

Posted May 22, 2021The holes and bags go to their own pocket dimensions. Not a joint dimension. That’s what other magic items are for.

Posted May 26, 2021So can you use the portable hole as a tent to sleep in and such? I understand that you only have 10 minutes of air if it's closed but what about if it stays open?

Posted Sep 18, 2021There is no weight limit. This item goes by volume only. My question here is how many coins fit in a hole 10ft deep and 6ft in diameter. For anything else, I think we can figure out whether it would fit, but coins would be good to know.

Posted Sep 18, 2021It's not a giant hole. It's 6ft in diameter and 10ft deep. You could fit one large creature in it, or a 6×10 cylinder of toxic gas or what have you.
You can retrieve the items just by opening it again. It's like a bigger bag if holding.

Meanwhile if it's not folded you're just in a 10 foot deep hole, and can otherwise react as if it were a totally mundane hole.
