Literally one of the MOST useless Rare weapons ever...
"When you roll a 20"
Does that mean a 20 or higher? or a Natural 20?
I believe it is a natural 20, since it is asking if the roll is a 20 and not if the attack roll is a 20.
Attack roll specifically being a roll after modifiers.
Nat 20. It's the same case as Jeremy Crawford answered here: "The sword of life stealing activates when you roll a 20 on the d20. The same is true of a vorpal sword."
One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is that due to the weapon's effect not being tied to critical hits, you can still get the damage if a crit is negated.
So even if the target wears adamantine armor (or has a similar rule) or uses a feature like the Grave Cleric's Sentinel at Death's Door to negate the critical hit, the bonus damage still applies as long as your hit roll was a natural 20.
Also, it is a fairly solid weapon on a barbarian. Reckless attack will give you a more consistent chance to trigger it. It's by all means still not super reliable but definitely not useless.
Is there any other weapons like this or Frost Brand that work for ranged weapons?
