Weapon (sickle), legendary (requires attunement)

A pitch black sickle, with purple lines running like veins through the shaft and blade. At the point where the shaft meets the blade, there is a deep purple gem. When souls are trapped inside, a dark purple smoke is emitted from the gem.

You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

Each time you slay a humanoid creature with this weapon, you collect its soul. You gain additional benefits based on how many souls are contained within it.

At 4 Souls: Add 1d4 to Damage Rolls for this weapon.
At 6 Souls: Add 1d6 to Damage Rolls for this weapon.
At 8 Souls: Add 1d8 to Damage Rolls for this weapon.
At 10 Souls: Add 1d10 to Damage Rolls for this weapon.

If the weapon exceeds 12 souls, it explodes automatically in a shadowy wave that ripples outward. Any creature within 30 feet of the weapon, and not behind full cover, must make a Constitution saving throw. (Save DC is 8 + Proficiency Bonus + Wisdom Modifier). Creatures that fail the saving throw take 3d8 Necrotic Damage. All souls that were contained within are lost.

You may, at any time, use an action to manually discharge all of the souls contained within the weapon. When you do so, you take 1 Necrotic damage for each soul that was inside the weapon when it was discharged.

Proficiency with a sickle allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
