Potion, uncommon
When you drink this potion, you can cast the level 3 version of the Animal Friendship spell (save DC 13).
Agitating this potion’s muddy liquid brings little bits into view: a fish scale, a hummingbird feather, a cat claw, or a squirrel hair.

Posted Jan 13, 2025This is the only potion that lets you cast a spell. Does that mean it can be counterspelled? Do you have to put together the Verbal, Somatic and Material components, in addition to drinking the potion? Perhaps the potion is the Material component, but can the potion be lost if you're Grappled, preventing proper Somatic motions?

Posted Jan 13, 2025Every other potion gives you an effect that may be like a spell, but it doesn't make you cast the spell.

Posted Apr 23, 2026How long can you cast it for? The 5e version of the spell said you can cast it at will for an hour after drinking the potion
Do you automatically cast it only once, when you drink the potion? If so, that seems like a weird downgrade. In that case it's basically a scroll that anyone can use without needing to have the spell on their spell list, I guess
Or does the benefit persist forever, since there's no duration? I doubt that's the intention. Gaining the ability to cast a spell at-will because you drank an uncommon potion seems a little strong. If it's a single cast you can hold onto, that's not overpowered, but it's just weird.
If I wanted to use this potion in a game I was running, I think I'd just use the 2014 version
