Traits

Dendron portal. As a bonus action, the arthroblossom can magically shift from the Material Plane to the Ethereal Plane or vice versa, wherever there is any kind of tree up to 120 ft. that the arthroblossom can see.

Crystalline Shell
. The crystalline nature of the arthroblossom’s shell makes it highly resilient to attacks. It has resistance to bludgeoning, slashing and piercing damage from nonmagical weapons and gains a natural armor (17).

Spider Climb
. The arthroblossom can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Web Walker. The arthroblossom ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing.

Incubation Cocoon. The arthroblossom weaves a crystalline cocoon around a paralyzed or incapacitated Medium or smaller target and itself. In 10 minutes, it consumes the victim’s body whole, and then excretes it as a crystalline shell that lathers around its body. This protective shell provides the arthroblossom with their victim’s maximum hit points as temporary hit points. They prefer to take their victims to the Ethereal Realm and dine in safety. Alternatively, the arthroblossom can use the body as a birthplace or even plain sustenance for their young, which take 12 hours to consume it.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 7 (1d10 + 2) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If the poison damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, the target is stable but poisoned for 1 hour, even after regaining hit points, and is sleeping (incapacitated) while poisoned in this way.

Description

Arthroblossoms are Phase spiders that have been infected by the Sporion. They have greatly evolved, becoming a kind of ‘’dedicated’’ parents to their offspring, which at times they can also use as a distraction against potential lethal threats. They bear many young that grow fast, with the female and more aggressive one usually protecting them. The spiderlings are almost as deadly and voracious as their parents. With their Incubation Cocoon ability, they use their pray’s body to create a protective shield around their bodies, made out of a very hard crystalline substance, making them nearly indestructible. Fortunately, they have very short life spans before turning into thin, scrawny trees that shimmer in the moonlight. Many of them can be found in the Tangled Trees forest.
